Explore Solutions From a Leading Foam Product Manufacturer
By the H-O Products applications engineering team · Updated February 2025 · ~4 min read

Foam selection shapes how a gasket seals, how a package protects, and how long either lasts in service. Here is a working overview of the foam families H-O Products converts, and the factors that should drive your choice among them.
Common foam types for industrial applications
Polyurethane (PU) foam
Versatile, with properties customizable by formulation, including chemical-resistant and flame-retardant options. Applications include gaskets, seals, packaging, and soundproofing.
Polyethylene (PE) foam
Strong chemical resistance and moisture barrier capability, available in closed-cell and open-cell formats. Used for packaging, insulation, and flotation.
Silicone foam
Excellent heat and chemical resistance, maintaining flexibility across temperature extremes. Applications include high-temperature gaskets and thermal insulation.
Reticulated foam
An open-cell structure enables superior airflow and filtration, with customizable pore sizes. Well suited to weight-sensitive applications.
ClipFoam™
A patented combination of VBoard and expanded polystyrene designed for assembly efficiency, protecting against impacts and vibrations during transit.
Acrylic foam
Exceptional adhesion to metals, plastics, and glass; resistant to moisture, UV, and extreme temperatures. Available in multiple thicknesses and densities.
What should drive your selection
- Application requirements — is the foam sealing, insulating, or cushioning?
- Environmental factors — exposure to heat, cold, chemicals, or UV radiation
- Performance specifics — flame retardancy, compression set, chemical compatibility
- Practical constraints — color and budget
Ready to choose a foam?
Send your application requirements, environment, and geometry. Engineering reviews every RFQ, recommends a foam family, and converts samples on your geometry.
Samples typically ship in 3 to 5 business days for common die-cut configurations; standard production runs about two weeks; special orders are quoted to the job.

Frequently asked questions
Which foam is best for sealing?
It depends on the environment: silicone foam for high temperature, polyethylene for moisture barriers, polyurethane for conformability at low closure force. Name the environment and the compression available and H-O will recommend a family.
Can H-O supply foam with adhesive backing?
Yes — most foam families can be laminated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive matched to the substrate, then die-cut to your geometry.
