Protective Films
Protective films are the material of choice when metal, painted, coated, and glazed surfaces must be shielded from scratching, abrasion, and contamination during fabrication, machining, transit, and installation — without adhesive residue or substrate marking on removal. Polyethylene film constructions in standard and low-tack variants provide controlled protection across a range of surface sensitivities, from mill-finish aluminum and powder-coated steel to architectural glass where mark-free removal is mandatory. H-O Products carries protective film families across PolyMask® PE and glass protective grades in standard and low-tack variants, and converts them to customer specification.
4040 Low Tack Protection Film
4040 Low Tack Protection Film is a 3 mil polyethylene temporary protective mask coated with a solvent-free water-based acrylic removable adhesive. Designed for semi-smooth surface protection, it delivers 2.0 to 4.0 oz/in adhesion to steel — a deliberately low-tack window calibrated for clean residue-free release on polished #3 and #4 stainless steel, aluminum, countertops, stone slabs, and tile. Available in clear, blue, and white. Tensile strength is 11 lb/in² with 325% elongation.
Key Properties
- Adhesion to Steel: 2.0 to 4.0 oz/in (PSTC-101)
- Tensile Strength: 11 lb/in² (PSTC-131)
- Elongation: 325% (PSTC-131)
- Tack Level: Low
- Adhesive Type: Water-based acrylic (solvent-free)
- Thickness: 3 mils (PSTC-133)
5180C PolyMask
5180C PolyMask is a 0.005" (5 mil) clear polyolefin film backed with low-density polyethylene and coated with a custom-formulated premium aqueous-based acrylic adhesive. The soft, aggressive adhesive matrix delivers 80 oz/in adhesion to steel — the highest in the PolyMask protective film series — with medium-high peel values that exhibit low build over time. The film is suited for surface protection on plastics, glass, metals, cool painted metal, low-gloss painted metal, textured HPL/LPL, and HP/LSE powder coatings including DuPont Kynar® finishes.
Key Properties
- Adhesion to Steel: 80 oz/in (ASTM D3330)
- Tensile Strength: 2,550 psi (ASTM D882)
- Elongation: 575% (ASTM D882)
- Adhesive Type: Aqueous-based acrylic (custom formulated)
- Material / Substrate: Polyolefin film with Low Density Polyethylene backing
- Thickness: 0.005" (ASTM D3652)
5188 PolyMask
5188 PolyMask is a 0.005" (5 mil) clear polyolefin film backed with polyethylene, coated with an acrylic-based removable adhesive system. Engineered as a high-adhesion temporary protection film for smooth and lightly/medium textured flat/satin-gloss surfaces, it delivers 12 oz/in adhesion to steel with stable adhesion levels for good removability. Tensile strength is 2,500 psi and elongation 450% per ASTM D882. Target applications include cultured marble, high-pressure laminates, painted surfaces, plastics, and powder coating HP/LSE finishes such as DuPont Kynar®.
Key Properties
