BISCO® FPC (Fire Protective Covering) is a flame-retardant silicone foam with silicone elastomer directly cast onto a reinforcing fiberglass layer, available in three thicknesses — 1.59 mm (0.063"), 3.18 mm (0.125"), and 6.35 mm (0.250") — with a density of 513 kg/m³ (32 lb/ft³) per ASTM F 1315. The material resists burn-through from flames up to 1038°C (1900°F) and achieves a flame spread index of <5 per ASTM E 162, with a continuous service temperature range of -55° to 200°C (-67° to 392°F) per SAE J 2236. It is available with or without pressure-sensitive adhesive.

Compression set is 2% at 22 hours, 212°F, 50% per ASTM D1056, and the service range is -76°F to 446°F continuous.

The material passes FAR 25.853a flammability, FAR 25.853 (a-1) (AITM 2.0007) smoke density, and FAR 25.856 (a) (AITM 2.0053) flame propagation resistance. Norseal® R10490 is a medium-grade fluorosilicone closed-cell sponge rubber with a density of 35 lbs/ft³ (554 kg/m³) per ASTM D3574 and a compression deflection of 15 psi (104 kPa) per ASTM D1056, available in four thicknesses from .031" to .125" in continuous rolls and sheets 36 in. wide. The material has an operating temperature range of -80°F to +400°F and is capable of meeting AMS 3323 Class 2, MIL-R-6130 Type 2 Grade A/B/C, and ASTM D6576 Type 2 Grade A/B/C (flame resistance paragraphs excluded). R10490 is specifically suited for applications containing oils and fluids that would degrade normal elastomers.
