GORE® Acoustic Vents for Automotive Microphones

GORE® Acoustic Vents for Automotive Microphones are pressure-sensitive adhesive-mounted ePTFE membrane vent components designed to protect exterior-mounted MEMS microphone ports in automotive systems while maintaining acoustic transparency. Available in two variants — AVS 700 (black membrane) and AVS 701 (grey membrane) — both deliver IP6K8 dust and water ingress protection per ISO 20653 at 2 meters for 1 hour, with a minimum Water Entry Pressure (WEP) of ≥ 60 kPa for 30 seconds. Acoustic performance is maintained at less than 2 dB change through 1.5 kHz and less than 3 dB change through 5 kHz. GORE® Acoustic Vents for Mobile Electronics

GORE® Acoustic Vents for Mobile Electronics are a family of ePTFE membrane-based venting components designed to simultaneously protect mobile devices from dust, liquid, and particle ingress while preserving acoustic transparency for microphones, speakers, and other transducers. The portfolio spans ten grades — from dust and splash protection (IP4X through IP64) to shallow immersion (IP67/IP68 at 1–2 meters) and deep immersion (ISO 22810, up to 100 meters) — with typical acoustic insertion loss as low as <0.1 dB at 1 kHz for the lightest-protection grades. The ePTFE membrane at the core of each vent uses a three-dimensional tortuous path microstructure that captures particles of varied shapes and sizes while allowing bidirectional passage of air and vapor. This architecture maintains consistent airflow even as particles accumulate, unlike woven materials whose two-dimensional structure can clog and lose venting effectiveness. Membrane characteristics include oleophobic or hydrophobic surface treatments depending on grade, providing protection against both water and low-surface-tension liquids. All standard parts are constructed with a PET support ring and acrylic adhesive. To the best of the manufacturer's knowledge, all standard parts meet the threshold requirements of RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU.

Key Properties

  • IP Rating Range: IP4X (dust and splash) through IP68 (5 m @ 30 min) and ISO 22810 (50 m @ 10 min; 100 m @ 15 min)

  • Typical Acoustic Impedance: 45 Rayls MKS (GAW111) to 149,000 Rayls MKS (GAW346)
  • Membrane Thickness: 4 microns (GAW337, GAW342) to 240 microns (GAW112)
  • Comparative Water Spray Efficiency: 60% (GAW111) to 100% (GAW348 through GAW346)

GORE® Protective Vents — Weldable Membrane Vents

GORE® Protective Vents Weldable Membrane Vents are black, hydrophobic and oleophobic ePTFE membrane vent components packaged in roll format for automated heat seal or ultrasonic weld installation directly into polymer enclosures. Available in three sizes — VC70008-1 (Ø 7.6 mm, 100 ml/min), VE0001SLR (Ø 10.0 mm, 185 ml/min), and VE0003AML (Ø 11.9 mm, 270 ml/min) — all three share identical IP ratings (IP65, IP66, IP67, IP68 at 2 m for 1 hr), water entry pressure (> 0.6 bar for 60 seconds), flammability (UL94-V0), and UV resistance (UL f2). Typical airflow at Δp = 70 mbar ranges from 100 to 270 ml/min (values adjusted for the loss of 1 mm for the welding area). Temperature resistance is -40 °C to 125 °C for all three parts. GORE® Protective Vents for Gearboxes

GORE® Protective Vents for Gearboxes (part number PMF100570) are compact tube-mount ePTFE membrane vent components with an integrated non-woven textile pre-filter, designed to provide pressure equalization and ingress protection for electrified and traditional gearbox components. The vent delivers minimum airflow of 200 ml/min at 12 mbar and Water Entry Pressure (assembly) of > 345 mbar (> 5.0 psi) for 60 seconds, with Ingress Protection ratings of IP66, IP68, and IP69K. Operating temperature range is -40 °C to +125 °C. The membrane is hydrophobic and oleophobic GORE ePTFE. The vent housing body is PA6.6–GF33 with a PA6.6 Impact modified cap. Overall dimensions are Ø 26.5 mm outer diameter, 34.0 mm height, with a base diameter of Ø 9.5 mm and a body height of 6.8 mm. The integrated non-woven textile pre-filter protects the ePTFE membrane from internal oil aerosols generated by oil-cooled components — a critical feature for gearbox and e-motor applications where an unprotected membrane would degrade rapidly. Manufactured under ISO 9001 quality management system.
