    • Sound, light, and dust seals in doors, windows, and enclosures requiring an extremely soft, conformable open cell foam that compresses under minimal force
    • Noise and air infiltration prevention around doors and windows in residential and commercial construction
    • Non-residue bonding system applications where a very low density, conformable foam is required as part of the assembly
    • Insulation, cushioning, and vibration damping in consumer, HVAC, and building product assemblies where the lowest density in the polyether polyurethane series is specified
    • Die-cut or slit foam seals and pads in applications requiring a 5/8″ thickness option not available in the 2# and 4# polyether grades

Common industries: construction, HVAC, fenestration, consumer goods, electronics.

The 1.2# Polyether Polyurethane Foam is the lowest-density grade in H-O Products’ polyether polyurethane foam series, at 1.20 lb/ft³ ±10%. It is an open cell foam designed for sound, light, and dust sealing; prevention of noise and air infiltration through and around doors and windows; insulation; cushioning; and vibration damping. Its very low density and very conformable character make it suited to applications requiring a highly compliant foam that seals under minimal force.

The TDS provides both compression force deflection (CFD) and indentation force deflection (IFD) data. CFD averages are 0.45 psi at 25%, 0.65 psi at 50%, and 1.1 psi at 70% per ASTM D3574. IFD average is 30 lb/50 in² at 25% deflection and 75 lb/50 in² at 65% deflection. Tensile strength is 12 psi minimum and 19 psi average. Elongation is 130% minimum and 210% average. Tear strength is 1.4 lb/in minimum and 2.7 lb/in average.

Retention of tensile strength is a minimum of 70% after 22 hours at 140°C dry heat aging and after 5 hours at 120°C steam autoclave, both per ASTM D3574. The material is RoHS compliant. A flame retardant formulation is available by special request.

What differentiates the 1.2# Polyether Polyurethane Foam from the higher-density 2# and 4# polyether grades?

The 1.2# is the lowest-density and softest grade in the polyether polyurethane series at 1.20 lb/ft³, with a CFD of 0.45 psi average at 25% — the lowest compression resistance in the series. It is the only grade to provide CFD data (in addition to IFD) on its TDS and the only grade available in a 5/8" thickness. It carries RoHS compliance only — FMVSS-302, UL 94 HF-1, REACH, and California TB 117 are not listed on this TDS.

Why does compression force deflection matter for open cell polyurethane foam selection?

Compression force deflection defines the load required to compress the foam to a given deflection level, directly governing how much resistance the foam provides in a sealing or cushioning application. The 1.2# grade has a CFD of 0.45 psi average at 25% — the lowest available in this foam family — reflecting its very soft, conformable character and its suitability for applications where the foam must seal effectively under very light closing forces.

What is the service temperature range for the 1.2# Polyether Polyurethane Foam?

A specific service temperature range is not stated on the manufacturer's TDS for this material. Aging performance data includes retention of tensile strength after 22 hours at 140°C dry heat aging and after 5 hours at 120°C steam autoclave, both with a minimum retention of 70%.

Is the 1.2# Polyether Polyurethane Foam suitable for regulated environments?

The material is RoHS compliant, as stated on the TDS. FMVSS-302, UL 94 HF-1, REACH, and California Technical Bulletin 117 are not listed on the TDS for this grade. A flame retardant formulation is available by special request.

How should the 1.2# Polyether Polyurethane Foam be specified?

Specify grade (1.2# Polyether Polyurethane Foam), thickness, compliance requirements (RoHS if applicable), dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
