4# Foam Wonder Pads

4# Foam Wonder Pads are two-component laminated pads constructed with a 4 PCF (pounds per cubic foot) crosslinked polyethylene foam on Side 1 (offered in 1/8″ and 3/16″ thicknesses) and a static-cling polyvinyl chloride (PVC) foam on Side 2. The PVC foam adheres to non-porous surfaces such as glass and mirror without any adhesive — providing residue-free, removable, and repositionable protection. The denser 4 PCF PE foam delivers higher tensile strength (159.9 psi), elongation (317.2%), and tear strength (18.7 lb/in MD) than the 2# variant, with lower compression set at 50% deflection (15.9%).

    • Glass separation and mirror shipment protection where higher-density foam cushioning is required for heavier panels
    • Disposable protective interleaving for any non-porous glass surface during transportation and storage
    • Stacked-glass interlayer pads for warehouse, distribution, and shipping operations requiring greater puncture resistance
    • Mirror manufacturing and converting where stiffer foam cushion meets a residue-free cling backing
    • Non-porous surface protection in stoneware, tile, and finished-glass logistics with thinner-gauge cushion (1/8″–3/16″)

Common industries: Glass and mirror manufacturing, transportation and packaging, stoneware and tile distribution, surface protection, industrial logistics.

4# Foam Wonder Pads are two-sided laminated protective pads designed for glass separation and mirror shipment, and as disposable protection for any non-porous surface. The construction laminates a 4 PCF crosslinked polyethylene foam (closed-cell, white) on one face to an adhesive-less, static-cling PVC foam on the opposite face.

The 4 PCF density is double the density of the 2# variant in the same family, producing a stiffer, stronger PE foam layer with higher tensile and tear performance per unit thickness — supporting use in heavier glass and mirror applications where greater puncture resistance and dimensional stability are needed.

The PE foam side delivers strong mechanical performance per ASTM D3575: 5.7 psi compression deflection at 25% strain, 15.9% compression set at 50% deflection, 159.9 psi tensile strength (machine direction), 317.2% elongation MD, and 18.7 lb/in tear strength MD. Density is 4 pcf.

Notable distinctions from the 2# variant: the 4# foam is supplied in thinner gauges (1/8″ and 3/16″ rather than 1/4″), and the published data set is more compact — with tensile, elongation, and tear values published only for machine direction rather than both MD and CD. Flame retardant variants are available by special request.

The PVC foam side mirrors the cling-foam specifications used across the entire Wonder Pad family and the standalone GP Cling Foam: 12 oz/in minimum cling adhesion to both cork and stainless steel, 5.0 psi compression deflection per ASTM D1667, 20 psi tensile strength per ASTM D412 Die A, 3% water absorption per ASTM D1056, 7–15 lb/ft³ density, and Shore 00 hardness of 45 per ASTM D2240. Shelf life is 6 months with adhesive or 2 years without adhesive, stored at or below 75°F.

What differentiates 4# Foam Wonder Pads from 2# Foam Wonder Pads and Cork Wonder Pads?

The differentiator is the density and resulting mechanical character of the Side 1 foam. The 4 PCF crosslinked polyethylene is approximately 2× denser than the 2# variant's foam, producing higher tensile strength (159.9 psi vs 69 lb/sq-in MD), higher elongation (317.2% vs 136% MD), and higher tear strength (18.7 vs 7 lb/in MD) — at thinner gauges (1/8" / 3/16" rather than 1/4"). Select 4# when greater puncture resistance, stiffness, and tear performance matter more than maximum cushion thickness. Select 2# when softer, thicker cushioning is preferred. Select Cork Wonder Pads when natural cork material is specified instead of polyethylene foam.

Why is cling adhesion important when selecting these pads?

The 12 oz/in minimum cling adhesion to non-porous surfaces is what enables the PVC foam to hold onto glass during shipping vibration without using any chemical adhesive. The cling mechanism is surface-energy based rather than chemical, so removal leaves no residue on the protected glass — the primary design objective for mirror and finished-glass shipping protection.

What is the operating temperature range for 4# Foam Wonder Pads?

The TDS does not publish a service temperature range. Specifiers requiring service temperature data should contact H-O Products directly.

Are 4# Foam Wonder Pads suitable for chemically exposed environments?

The TDS for the 4# variant does not publish a chemical resistance rating (the 2# variant TDS rates chemical resistance as Excellent). Flame retardant variants are available by special request. The PVC foam side cling-bonding mechanism is designed for residue-free, repositionable contact with non-porous glass surfaces. No specific regulatory compliance standards are listed on the TDS for this material.

How should 4# Foam Wonder Pads be specified?

Specify product (4# Foam Wonder Pads), PE foam thickness (1/8" or 3/16"), PE foam density (4 pcf), cling layer (PVC foam), application surface (glass, mirror, or other non-porous substrate), flame retardant requirement (if applicable, by special request), compliance requirements, dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
