502F-50 is the softest grade in the 502F-series of nickel-coated graphite filled conductive fluorosilicone elastomers, at 50 Shore A (45–55 range). The fluorosilicone base provides enhanced resistance to fuels, oils, and solvents compared to standard silicone grades, making 502F-50 suitable for EMI shielding gasket applications in chemically demanding environments where a soft, conformable elastomer is required.

It is available in the broadest range of supply forms in the 502F-series — ready-to-mold compound, fully cured sheet stock, continuous extrusion profiles, and, for select formulations, continuous rolls. Data was generated using ASTM test methods and procedures with the Varox catalyst system.

The material achieves 130 psi tensile strength, 477% elongation — the highest elongation in the 502F-series — and a Tear “B” of 33 ppi (25 min specification). Shielding effectiveness is >113 dB, measured from 100 MHz to 10 GHz (E-field) — a lower frequency bound than the 200 MHz start point used for 502F-60 and 502F-80. Uncatalyzed shelf life is indefinite (may need freshening after 1–2 years); catalyzed shelf life is 6 months. Cold storage will extend shelf life.

    What differentiates 502F-50 from 502F-60 and 502F-80?

502F-50 is the softest and most conformable grade in the 502F nickel-coated graphite fluorosilicone series at 50 Shore A (45–55 range), with the highest elongation at 477%. Its shielding effectiveness is measured from 100 MHz to 10 GHz — a broader frequency range starting one decade lower than the 200 MHz lower bound used for 502F-60 and 502F-80. It uses the Varox catalyst system versus DBPH for the harder grades. The single typical-value data table on its TDS contrasts with the three-column Typical/Sheets/Rolls format of 502F-60.

Why is compression set critical for this material?

As a conductive elastomeric shielding gasket material in chemical environments, 502F-50 must maintain intimate contact with mating surfaces to sustain shielding effectiveness of >113 dB and volume resistivity of 0.015 ohm/cm over its service life. Compression set resistance ensures the gasket does not permanently deform under sustained closure load, preserving the conductive interface. No compression set value is listed on the TDS for this grade.

What is the operating temperature range for 502F-50?

The thermal stability range for 502F-50 is -55°C to 200°C as listed on the TDS.

Is 502F-50 suitable for regulated or military environments?

No compliance standards or military specifications are listed on the manufacturer's TDS for this material.

    How should 502F-50 be specified?

Specify grade (502F-50), supply form (compound, sheet stock, extrusion profile, or roll), thickness, compliance requirements, dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
