    • Structural bonding of glass and glass/epoxy panels to metal frames on high surface energy substrates requiring gap accommodation at 0.062″ bondline
    • Bonding of coated and anodized aluminum components requiring absorption of differential thermal expansion at larger bondline clearances
    • Pre-powder coating assembly bonding where tape must survive the powder coat oven cycle before topcoat application
    • Attachment of stainless steel and galvanized steel parts requiring high peel adhesion and sustained elevated-temperature static shear performance
    • Medium surface energy substrate bonding in combination with H-O Products Primer 33 or Primer 101

Common industries: Industrial assembly, architectural glazing, automotive manufacturing, metal fabrication.

AFTC 5024 is a 0.062″ thick white grade in the SilverTape family of high-performance double-sided acrylic foam tapes, designed to bond a wide variety of materials with high and medium surface energy — including glass, glass/epoxy, stainless steel, galvanized steel, anodized steel, and coated aluminum. The TDS identifies toughness as the key driver of its strongest-available-bond performance on high surface energy substrates.

The acrylic adhesive foam core is closed cell and carries a permanent adhesive system on both faces, protected by a red PE liner. The formulation is suitable for pre-powder coating applications, allowing it to remain in place through a powder coat oven cycle.

The tape exhibits excellent UV resistance and excellent solvent resistance per the TDS. Static shear strength is 1,500 grams per 1/2 square inch held for 10,000 minutes (7 days) at 72°F, and 750 grams at temperatures from 150°F through 350°F. Surface preparation is critical: substrates should be cleaned with IPA for light to moderate contamination, or MEK, Heptane, or Acetone for heavy contamination followed by an IPA wipe.

Raw aluminum must be abraded prior to bonding. A minimum bond-line pressure of 14.5 psi must be applied. Full end-strength is reached within 72 hours; use of H-O Products Primer 33 or Primer 101 reduces this to approximately 20 minutes. Minimum recommended application temperature is 59°F.

What differentiates AFTC 5024 from AFTC 5056 at the same thickness?

AFTC 5024 and AFTC 5056 are both 0.062" thick SilverTape grades with identical adhesion values (21 lb/in peel, 78 lb/in² dynamic shear and tensile, 1,500 grams static shear at 72°F, 750 grams at 150°F through 350°F). The sole difference per the TDS is color — AFTC 5024 is white and AFTC 5056 is gray. Grade selection between these two should be based on assembly color requirements or inspection visibility needs.

Why is peel adhesion important when selecting a structural bonding tape?

Peel adhesion determines whether the tape maintains contact with the substrate when the assembly is subjected to flexing, vibration, or forces that act to lift the bond line at its edges. In bonded assemblies using glass, metal, or coated substrates, inadequate peel adhesion leads to edge delamination and bond failure. AFTC 5024 delivers 21 lb/in at 90° peel, providing strong edge retention on the high and medium surface energy substrates for which it is formulated.

What is the operating temperature range for AFTC 5024?

AFTC 5024 has a minimum temperature resistance of -40°F, a long-term temperature resistance of 248°F, and a short-term temperature resistance of 374°F, as listed on the TDS.

Is AFTC 5024 suitable for pre-powder coating applications?

Yes. The TDS states that AFTC 5024 is suitable for pre-powder coating applications, meaning the tape can be applied to the assembly prior to the powder coat oven cycle. No additional regulatory compliance standards are stated on the TDS.

How should AFTC 5024 be specified?

Specify grade (AFTC 5024), thickness (0.062"), color (white), compliance requirements, dimensional tolerances, adhesive side (double), liner type (red PE liner), and finished format.
