AFTC 5032 is a 0.03″ thick white grade in the SilverTape family of high-performance double-sided acrylic foam tapes, formulated to bond materials with high and medium surface energy. Its substrate range is notably broader than other SilverTape grades, explicitly including transparent plastics and high and medium surface energy plastics in addition to metals and glass. The acrylic adhesive foam core is closed cell and carries a permanent adhesive system on both faces, protected by a red PE liner.
AFTC 5032 has a lower maximum temperature resistance than other grades in the SilverTape family — 212°F long-term and 320°F short-term — which should be considered when evaluating for elevated-temperature applications. The tape exhibits excellent UV resistance and excellent solvent resistance per the TDS. Static shear strength is 1,000 grams per 1/2 square inch held for 10,000 minutes (7 days) at 72°F, and 500 grams at 150°F and 200°F.
Surface preparation is critical: substrates should be cleaned with IPA for light to moderate contamination, or MEK, Heptane, or Acetone for heavy contamination followed by an IPA wipe. Raw aluminum must be abraded prior to bonding. A minimum bond-line pressure of 14.5 psi must be applied. Full end-strength is reached within 72 hours; use of H-O Products Primer 33 or Primer 101 reduces this to approximately 20 minutes.
Minimum recommended application temperature is 59°F.
What differentiates AFTC 5032 from AFTC 5008, the other 0.03" SilverTape grade?
AFTC 5032 and AFTC 5008 are both 0.03" thick SilverTape grades. AFTC 5032 is white and has lower maximum temperature ratings (212°F long-term / 320°F short-term vs. 248°F / 374°F for 5008), but extends the substrate range to include transparent plastics and high and medium surface energy plastics. AFTC 5008 is gray and is the preferred choice when higher temperature resistance is required.
Why is peel adhesion important when selecting a structural bonding tape?
Peel adhesion determines whether the tape maintains contact with the substrate when the assembly is subjected to flexing, vibration, or forces that act to lift the bond line at its edges. In bonded assemblies using plastics, glass, or coated metals, inadequate peel adhesion leads to edge delamination and bond failure. AFTC 5032 delivers 18 lb/in at 90° peel, providing durable edge retention on the high and medium surface energy substrates for which it is formulated.
What is the operating temperature range for AFTC 5032?
AFTC 5032 has a minimum temperature resistance of -40°F, a long-term temperature resistance of 212°F, and a short-term temperature resistance of 320°F, as listed on the TDS.
Is AFTC 5032 suitable for high-temperature manufacturing environments?
AFTC 5032 has a lower maximum temperature rating than most other SilverTape grades — 212°F long-term and 320°F short-term — and should be evaluated carefully for applications involving elevated temperatures. No specific regulatory compliance standards are stated on the TDS.
How should AFTC 5032 be specified?
Specify grade (AFTC 5032), thickness (0.03"), color (white), compliance requirements, dimensional tolerances, adhesive side (double), liner type (red PE liner), and finished format.
