    • Structural bonding of glass and glass/epoxy panels to metal frames where maximum gap accommodation and highest peel retention are required
    • Bonding of coated and anodized aluminum components with larger bondline clearances requiring absorption of differential thermal expansion
    • Attachment of stainless steel and galvanized steel parts on assemblies with surface irregularities requiring maximum conformability
    • Medium surface energy substrate bonding in combination with H-O Products Primer 33 or Primer 101
    • High-temperature-resistance structural bonding applications at the thickest available bondline in this SilverTape range

Common industries: Industrial assembly, architectural glazing, automotive manufacturing, metal fabrication.

AFTC 5091 is the thickest grade in this range of the SilverTape family at 0.09″, designed to bond a wide variety of materials with high and medium surface energy — including glass, glass/epoxy, stainless steel, galvanized steel, anodized steel, and coated aluminum. The acrylic adhesive foam core is closed cell and carries a permanent adhesive system on both faces, protected by a red PE liner. The tape’s substantial thickness provides maximum gap-filling and conformability within the series and delivers the highest 90° peel adhesion at 23 lb/in.

The tape exhibits excellent UV resistance and excellent solvent resistance per the TDS. In combination with a primer, the SilverTape family provides excellent adhesion performance on medium surface energy materials. Static shear strength is 1,000 grams per 1/2 square inch held for 10,000 minutes (7 days) at 72°F, and 500 grams at 150°F and 200°F.

Surface preparation is critical: substrates should be cleaned with IPA for light to moderate contamination, or MEK, Heptane, or Acetone for heavy contamination followed by an IPA wipe. Raw aluminum must be abraded prior to bonding. A minimum bond-line pressure of 14.5 psi must be applied. Full end-strength is reached within 72 hours; use of H-O Products Primer 33 or Primer 101 reduces this to approximately 20 minutes.

Minimum recommended application temperature is 59°F.

What differentiates AFTC 5091 from thinner SilverTape grades such as AFTC 5056?

AFTC 5091 is 0.09" thick — approximately 45% thicker than AFTC 5056 at 0.062". It delivers the highest 90° peel adhesion in this SilverTape range at 23 lb/in, providing maximum edge retention and gap-filling capability. The greater thickness is the preferred choice where surface gaps are largest or where the highest peel performance at bond edges is required.

Why is peel adhesion important when selecting a structural bonding tape?

Peel adhesion determines whether the tape maintains contact with the substrate when the assembly is subjected to flexing, vibration, or forces that act to lift the bond line at its edges. In bonded assemblies using glass, metal, or coated substrates, inadequate peel adhesion leads to edge delamination and bond failure. AFTC 5091 delivers 23 lb/in at 90° peel — the highest in this SilverTape thickness range — providing maximum edge retention on high surface energy substrates.

What is the operating temperature range for AFTC 5091?

AFTC 5091 has a minimum temperature resistance of -40°F, a long-term temperature resistance of 248°F, and a short-term temperature resistance of 374°F, as listed on the TDS.

Is AFTC 5091 suitable for high-temperature manufacturing environments?

Yes. AFTC 5091 is rated to 374°F short-term and 248°F long-term, consistent with the full SilverTape temperature resistance range. No specific regulatory compliance standards are stated on the TDS.

How should AFTC 5091 be specified?

Specify grade (AFTC 5091), thickness (0.09"), color (gray), compliance requirements, dimensional tolerances, adhesive side (double), liner type (red PE liner), and finished format.
