Common industries: Industrial assembly, architectural glazing, automotive manufacturing, metal fabrication.
AFTC 5313 is a 0.078″ thick gray grade in the SilverTape family of high-performance double-sided acrylic foam tapes, designed for bonding high surface energy materials — including glass, glass/epoxy, stainless steel, galvanized steel, anodized steel, and coated aluminum. The TDS cites toughness as the defining characteristic driving its strongest-available-bond performance on high surface energy substrates.
The acrylic adhesive foam core is closed cell and carries a permanent adhesive system on both faces, protected by a red PE liner. The tape’s very high temperature resistance is a noted characteristic.
The tape exhibits excellent UV resistance and excellent solvent resistance per the TDS. Static shear strength is 1,000 grams per 1/2 square inch held for 10,000 minutes (7 days) at 72°F, and 500 grams at 150°F and 200°F. Surface preparation is critical: substrates should be cleaned with IPA for light to moderate contamination, or MEK, Heptane, or Acetone for heavy contamination followed by an IPA wipe. Raw aluminum must be abraded prior to bonding.
A minimum bond-line pressure of 14.5 psi must be applied. Full end-strength is reached within 72 hours; use of H-O Products Primer 33 or Primer 101 reduces this to approximately 20 minutes. Minimum recommended application temperature is 59°F.
What differentiates AFTC 5313 from AFTC 5312, the adjacent white grade at similar thickness?
AFTC 5313 is 0.078" thick, gray, with a density of 54 lb/ft³, a minimum application temperature of 59°F, and storage conditions of 39.2°F to 100.4°F. AFTC 5312 is 0.079" thick, white, with a density of 55 lb/ft³, a minimum application temperature of 65°F, and storage conditions of 40°F to 95°F. Both share the same adhesion values (22 lb/in peel, 78 lb/in² dynamic shear, 71 lb/in² tensile). AFTC 5312 additionally lists excellent water resistance and identifies fastener replacement as a typical application; these are not listed on the AFTC 5313 TDS.
Why is peel adhesion important when selecting a structural bonding tape?
Peel adhesion determines whether the tape maintains contact with the substrate when the assembly is subjected to flexing, vibration, or forces that act to lift the bond line at its edges. In bonded assemblies using glass, metal, or coated substrates, inadequate peel adhesion leads to edge delamination and bond failure. AFTC 5313 delivers 22 lb/in at 90° peel, providing strong edge retention on the high surface energy substrates for which it is formulated.
What is the operating temperature range for AFTC 5313?
AFTC 5313 has a minimum temperature resistance of -40°F, a long-term temperature resistance of 248°F, and a short-term temperature resistance of 374°F, as listed on the TDS.
Is AFTC 5313 suitable for high-temperature manufacturing environments?
Yes. AFTC 5313 is rated to 374°F short-term and 248°F long-term, consistent with the full SilverTape temperature resistance range. No specific regulatory compliance standards are stated on the TDS.
How should AFTC 5313 be specified?
Specify grade (AFTC 5313), thickness (0.078"), color (gray), compliance requirements, dimensional tolerances, adhesive side (double), liner type (red PE liner), and finished format.
