AFTC 5327 is the thinnest grade in the AFTC 53-series general purpose Acrylic Coating 40 range at 0.015″. It is specifically designed for bonding high and medium surface energy substrates and is capable of absorbing the differing thermal expansions of two different materials. The 53-series is described on the TDS as having a very high initial tack, very good plasticizer resistance, and the adaptability to bond thin or textured surfaces full surface and tension free. The tape is white and supplied with a Red PE liner.
AFTC 5327 achieves a tensile strength of 160 lb/in² per ASTM D897 — the highest tensile strength in the entire AFTC range — with a 90° peel adhesion of 18 lb/in per ASTM D3330 and a dynamic shear strength of 101 lb/in² per ASTM D1002. Static shear strength at 72°F is 1,000 grams (per 1/2 in² for 10,000 minutes / 7 days) per ASTM 3654.
The tape offers excellent solvent and UV resistance and maintains high impact resistance even at temperatures below 0°C, as stated on the TDS. Shelf life is 18 months; store in original packaging in a dry environment between 39.2°F and 100.4°F. Minimum recommended application temperature is 59°F. Minimum bond line pressure required is 14.5 psi.
What differentiates 5327 from other 53-series Acrylic Coating 40 grades?
5327 is the thinnest grade in the 53-series at 0.015" and carries a tensile strength of 160 lb/in² per ASTM D897 — the highest tensile value in the entire AFTC range. Despite being the thinnest grade, it maintains high dynamic shear (101 lb/in²) and peel adhesion (18 lb/in). It is white and supplied with a Red PE liner, consistent with other 53-series grades.
Why is peel adhesion important for acrylic foam tape selection?
Peel adhesion at 90° measures the resistance of the bond to delamination forces — the load mode most commonly encountered when assemblies flex, vibrate, or experience differential movement. For high and medium surface energy substrates, Acrylic Coating 40 is formulated to deliver strong initial tack and durable adhesion. 5327 achieves a 90° peel adhesion of 18 lb/in per ASTM D3330.
What is the operating temperature range for 5327?
5327 has a minimum temperature resistance of -40°F, a long-term temperature resistance of 212°F, and a short-term temperature resistance of 320°F.
Is 5327 suitable for automotive or regulated environments?
No compliance standards are specified on the manufacturer's TDS for 5327. The 53-series is described as a general purpose tape designed for bonding high and medium energy substrates in automotive and industrial applications.
How should 5327 be specified?
Specify grade (5327 / H-O part number SRM5327), thickness (0.015" ±15%), color (White), liner type (Red PE), substrate surface preparation requirements, bond line pressure (minimum 14.5 psi), primer requirements if applicable, dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
