    • Single-sided structural bonding of glass and glass/epoxy panels to metal frames on high surface energy substrates
    • Attachment of coated aluminum components to assemblies requiring high peel adhesion and long-term bond stability
    • Bonding of stainless steel and galvanized steel parts where a single-sided tape construction is required by assembly design
    • High surface energy substrate bonding applications where the tape’s high density core provides maximum cohesive strength
    • Medium surface energy substrate bonding in combination with H-O Products Primer 33 or Primer 101

Common industries: Automotive manufacturing, architectural glazing, industrial assembly, metal fabrication.

AFTC 5350 is a 0.047″ thick, single-sided grade in the SilverTape family of high-performance acrylic foam tapes, designed for bonding high surface energy materials including glass, glass/epoxy, stainless steel, galvanized steel, and coated aluminum. Unlike the double-sided grades in the SilverTape line, AFTC 5350 carries adhesive on one face only and uses a coated acrylic foam substrate rather than uncoated.

The TDS attributes its strongest-available-bond capability on high surface energy substrates to the tape’s high density (55 lb/ft³) and internal cohesive strength. Very good shear strength, good internal strength, and very good long-term stability are cited as key performance characteristics.

The tape exhibits excellent UV resistance and excellent solvent resistance per the TDS. Static shear strength is 1,000 grams per 1/2 square inch held for 10,000 minutes (7 days) at 72°F, and 500 grams at 150°F and 200°F. Surface preparation is critical: substrates should be cleaned with IPA for light to moderate contamination, or MEK, Heptane, or Acetone for heavy contamination followed by an IPA wipe. Raw aluminum must be abraded prior to bonding.

A minimum bond-line pressure of 14.5 psi must be applied. Full end-strength is reached within 72 hours; use of H-O Products Primer 33 or Primer 101 reduces this to approximately 20 minutes. Minimum recommended application temperature is 65°F.

What differentiates AFTC 5350 from AFTC 5013, the other single-sided SilverTape grade at the same thickness?

AFTC 5350 and AFTC 5013 are both 0.047" thick, single-sided, white, coated acrylic foam grades with identical adhesion values (22 lb/in peel, 86 lb/in² dynamic shear and tensile, 1,000 grams static shear at 72°F, 500 grams at 150°F and 200°F), the same minimum application temperature (65°F), and the same storage conditions (40°F to 95°F). Based on the TDS data available, both grades have the same specifications. Please contact H-O Products for guidance on selection between these grades for a specific application.

Why is peel adhesion important when selecting a structural bonding tape?

Peel adhesion determines whether the tape maintains contact with the substrate when the assembly is subjected to flexing, vibration, or forces that act to lift the bond line at its edges. In bonded assemblies using glass, metal, or coated substrates, inadequate peel adhesion leads to edge delamination and bond failure. AFTC 5350 delivers 22 lb/in at 90° peel, providing strong edge retention on the high surface energy substrates for which it is formulated.

What is the operating temperature range for AFTC 5350?

AFTC 5350 has a minimum temperature resistance of -40°F, a long-term temperature resistance of 248°F, and a short-term temperature resistance of 374°F, as listed on the TDS.

Is AFTC 5350 suitable for high-temperature manufacturing environments?

Yes. AFTC 5350 is rated to 374°F short-term and 248°F long-term. The minimum recommended application temperature for this grade is 65°F. No specific regulatory compliance standards are stated on the TDS.

How should AFTC 5350 be specified?

Specify grade (AFTC 5350), thickness (0.047"), color (white), compliance requirements, dimensional tolerances, adhesive side (single), liner type (red PE liner), and finished format.
