- Primer-free bonding to powder coated metal surfaces across a broad range of industrial and consumer product assemblies
- Conformable adhesive attachment to textured or irregular LSE plastic surfaces — including PP and PE — without surface preparation
- Bonding to coated glass, ceramics, and silicone substrates where high conformability is required for full-surface contact
- Structural bonding to high and medium surface energy substrates where a single tape must serve multiple substrate types
- Replacement of mechanical fasteners — including rivets, screws, spot-welds, and liquid adhesives — on LSE substrates in fabricated assemblies
Common industries: automotive, general manufacturing, signage and display, glazing and fenestration, consumer products.
AFTC 6411 is a high performance highly conformable double sided acrylic foam tape from the 64 series, constructed with a closed cell acrylic adhesive foam core coated on both sides with Acrylic Coating 60.
Unlike the thinner 6406 and 6408 grades which target LSE substrates specifically, AFTC 6411 is described as suitable for use on almost all substrates — including high, medium, and low surface energy surfaces — and has been developed for applications where a primer or adhesion promoter is not preferred. The TDS specifically characterizes this grade as highly conformable, making it well suited to bonding irregular or textured surfaces.
Note: all “Black+” tapes have a gray core and black adhesive.
The tape demonstrates excellent resistance to solvents and UV exposure and accommodates differential thermal expansion between dissimilar materials. As a pressure sensitive adhesive, a minimum bond line pressure of 14.5 psi applied by hand roller or mechanical presser is required for full adhesion. Shelf life is 12 months when stored in original packaging in a dry environment between 40°F and 95°F — a shorter shelf life and narrower storage range than the 6406 and 6408 grades.
What differentiates AFTC 6411 from AFTC 6408, which shares the same adhesive system?
AFTC 6411 is specifically described as highly conformable and suitable for use on almost all substrates — including high and medium surface energy surfaces in addition to LSE — whereas AFTC 6408 targets LSE surfaces only. AFTC 6411 is 0.047" thick with a tighter ±10% tolerance compared to 0.031" ±15% for AFTC 6408. It also has a shorter shelf life of 12 months (vs. 18 months) and a narrower storage range of 40°F–95°F, and requires a minimum application temperature of 65°F versus 59°F for AFTC 6408.
Why is peel adhesion important when selecting an acrylic foam tape?
Peel adhesion — measured here at 22 lb/in per ASTM D3330 — determines how effectively the tape resists being peeled or lifted from a bonded substrate under service loading. For applications spanning both LSE and higher surface energy substrates, consistent peel performance across substrate types is critical to maintaining bond integrity without requiring different tape grades for different bonding surfaces.
What is the operating temperature range for AFTC 6411?
AFTC 6411 has a minimum temperature resistance of -40°F, a long-term temperature resistance of 194°F, and a short-term temperature resistance of 248°F.
Is AFTC 6411 suitable for outdoor or UV-exposed environments?
The TDS rates AFTC 6411 as having excellent UV resistance and excellent solvent resistance. No specific regulatory compliance standards are listed on the TDS.
How should AFTC 6411 be specified?
Specify grade (AFTC 6411), thickness (0.047"), color (Black+), liner type (Red PE), dimensional tolerances, and finished format. Confirm substrate type and surface energy level, and confirm minimum application temperature of 65°F can be met at time of bonding.
