AFTC 815
AFTC 815 is a 0.006″ thick ultra-thin double-sided acrylic foam tape built on a closed-cell acrylic adhesive foam core with a permanent closed cell acrylic adhesive on both faces and a paper liner. At this extreme low profile, the tape is designed to be virtually invisible in assembled parts, enabling permanent bonding of lightweight, thin, and small-format components across a wide range of molded and machined surfaces. It carries a 90° peel adhesion of 14 lb/in and is rated for service from −40°F to 320°F short-term and 212°F long-term.

AFTC 815 is a 0.006″ ultra-thin double-sided acrylic foam tape intended for bonding lightweight, thin, and small parts to glass, metal, and coated substrates. The closed-cell acrylic adhesive foam core delivers a permanent adhesive bond on both faces while maintaining an extremely low profile — making the tape functionally invisible in many finished assemblies. The Black+ color (gray core with black adhesive) makes it well-suited for applications where tape visibility against dark or opaque substrates must be minimized.
The tape exhibits excellent UV resistance, aging resistance, and solvent resistance, supporting long-term durability in exterior and chemically exposed environments. A minimum bond-line pressure of 14.5 psi applied by hand roller or mechanical presser is required. Surface preparation is critical: IPA is recommended for lightly to moderately contaminated surfaces; heavily contaminated surfaces require MEK, Heptan, or Acetone followed by an IPA wipe.
Raw aluminum must be abraded prior to bonding to remove embedded processing oils. Primer is recommended for low surface energy substrates including polymers, powder-coated metals, and porous materials, reducing time to full bond strength from up to 72 hours to approximately 20 minutes. Shelf life is 18 months stored in original packaging between 39.2°F and 100.4°F.
What differentiates AFTC 815 from AFTC 816?
AFTC 815 and 816 share the same 0.006" thickness, adhesive construction, and all performance values, but differ in color: 815 is Black+ (gray core with black adhesive) and 816 is White. The color distinction is the primary selection criterion — 815 is preferred where dark tape color is required to minimize visibility against black or dark substrates.
Why is peel adhesion important when selecting this tape?
At ultra-thin gauges, peel adhesion is the key indicator of whether the tape will maintain bond integrity under real-world loading — particularly vibration, thermal cycling, and shear stress in service. For AFTC 815, the 90° peel adhesion of 14 lb/in confirms that the tape delivers meaningful bond strength even at a profile thin enough to be virtually invisible in the finished assembly.
What is the operating temperature range for AFTC 815?
AFTC 815 has a minimum temperature resistance of −40°F, a long-term temperature resistance of 212°F, and a short-term temperature resistance of 320°F.
Is AFTC 815 suitable for exterior or UV-exposed environments?
The TDS rates UV resistance, aging resistance, and solvent resistance as Excellent. No specific regulatory compliance standards are listed on the TDS for this material.
How should AFTC 815 be specified?
Specify grade (AFTC 815), thickness (0.006"), color (Black+), compliance requirements, dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
