AFTC 816
AFTC 816 is a 0.006″ thick ultra-thin double-sided acrylic foam tape constructed with a closed-cell acrylic adhesive foam core, permanent closed cell acrylic adhesive on both faces, and a paper liner. At this extreme low profile the tape is designed to be virtually invisible in finished assemblies, enabling permanent bonding of lightweight, thin, and small-format components to a wide range of molded and machined surfaces. It delivers a 90° peel adhesion of 14 lb/in and is rated for service from −40°F to 320°F short-term and 212°F long-term.

AFTC 816 is a 0.006″ ultra-thin double-sided acrylic foam tape designed for permanent adhesive bonding of lightweight, thin, and small parts to glass, metal, and coated substrates. The closed-cell acrylic foam core and permanent adhesive system deliver reliable bond strength at an extremely low profile — making the tape functionally invisible in many finished assemblies. The White color makes it well-suited for applications where tape color must blend with light-colored or translucent substrates.
The tape provides excellent UV resistance, aging resistance, and solvent resistance, supporting durable performance in exterior and chemically exposed environments. A minimum bond-line pressure of 14.5 psi applied by hand roller or mechanical presser is required for full adhesion. Light to moderate surface contamination should be removed with IPA; heavily contaminated surfaces require MEK, Heptan, or Acetone followed by an IPA wipe.
Raw aluminum must be abraded prior to bonding to remove embedded processing oils. Primer is recommended for low surface energy substrates including polymers, powder-coated metals, and porous materials; primer use reduces time to full bond strength from up to 72 hours to approximately 20 minutes. Shelf life is 18 months stored in original packaging between 39.2°F and 100.4°F.
What differentiates AFTC 816 from AFTC 815?
AFTC 816 and 815 share the same 0.006" thickness, adhesive construction, and all performance values, but differ in color: 816 is White and 815 is Black+ (gray core with black adhesive). AFTC 816 is the preferred choice where white tape color is required to blend with light-colored, white, or translucent substrates.
Why is peel adhesion important when selecting this tape?
At ultra-thin gauges, peel adhesion is the critical indicator of real-world bond performance, particularly where the tape must resist vibration, thermal movement, and shear loading while maintaining a near-invisible profile. For AFTC 816, the 90° peel adhesion of 14 lb/in confirms meaningful bond strength at just 0.006" total thickness.
What is the operating temperature range for AFTC 816?
AFTC 816 has a minimum temperature resistance of −40°F, a long-term temperature resistance of 212°F, and a short-term temperature resistance of 320°F.
Is AFTC 816 suitable for exterior or UV-exposed environments?
The TDS rates UV resistance, aging resistance, and solvent resistance as Excellent. No specific regulatory compliance standards are listed on the TDS for this material.
How should AFTC 816 be specified?
Specify grade (AFTC 816), thickness (0.006"), color (White), compliance requirements, dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
