AFTC 8302 is a 0.009″ thin double-sided acrylic foam tape designed for bonding lightweight, thin, and small components to glass, metal, and coated substrates in applications where elevated temperature resistance is required. The construction uses a closed-cell acrylic adhesive foam core and a red PE liner.

The key differentiator within the thin AFTC series is the tape’s high-temperature capability: a long-term resistance of 248°F and short-term resistance of 374°F (+100°C to +160°C), which significantly exceeds the 212°F/320°F ratings of the standard 815, 816, 820, and 821 ultra-thin grades.

The tape provides excellent UV resistance, aging resistance, and solvent resistance in addition to its elevated thermal performance. A minimum bond-line pressure of 14.5 psi applied by hand roller or mechanical presser is required. IPA is recommended for lightly to moderately contaminated surfaces; heavily contaminated surfaces require MEK, Heptan, or Acetone followed by an IPA wipe.

Raw aluminum must be abraded before bonding to remove embedded processing oils. Primer is recommended for low surface energy substrates including polymers, powder-coated metals, and porous materials, reducing cure time from up to 72 hours to approximately 20 minutes. Shelf life is 18 months stored in original packaging between 39.2°F and 100.4°F.

    What differentiates AFTC 8302 from the 815, 816, 820, and 821 grades?

AFTC 8302 is formulated for elevated thermal environments. Its long-term temperature resistance of 248°F and short-term resistance of 374°F significantly exceed the 212°F/320°F ratings of the standard ultra-thin grades. It is the correct selection when service temperatures above 212°F are anticipated.

Why is peel adhesion important when selecting this tape?

Peel adhesion is the primary real-world bond strength indicator for thin tapes, determining resistance to separation under vibration, thermal cycling, and mechanical loading. For AFTC 8302, the 90° peel adhesion of 16 lb/in is the highest in the thin/ultra-thin AFTC series, confirming that the elevated-temperature formulation does not compromise adhesive performance.

What is the operating temperature range for AFTC 8302?

    AFTC 8302 has a minimum temperature resistance of −40°F, a long-term temperature resistance of 248°F, and a short-term temperature resistance of 374°F (+100°C to +160°C).

Is AFTC 8302 suitable for exterior or UV-exposed environments?

The TDS rates UV resistance, aging resistance, and solvent resistance as Excellent, in addition to high-temperature resistance. No specific regulatory compliance standards are listed on the TDS for this material.

How should AFTC 8302 be specified?

Specify grade (AFTC 8302), thickness (0.009"), color (Gray), compliance requirements, dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
