Common industries: Automotive, Electronics, Industrial Manufacturing.
AFTC AM9806 is the 0.025″ grade in the AFTC Acrylic Coating 91 LSE series, providing greater bondline thickness and higher peel adhesion than the thinner AM9804 grade. It is formulated with Acrylic Coating 91 to conform to the highest standards for bonding to powder-coated surfaces, automotive lacquers, and low surface energy materials including PP, PP-EPDM, EPP, and TPE — without the use of a primer.
The TDS describes the tape as conforming to the highest standards in these areas and explicitly states primer-free bonding capability on these difficult substrates. The tape is supplied in black (gray core with black adhesive) with a Red PE liner.
AM9806 achieves a 90° peel adhesion of 15 lb/in per ASTM D3330, a dynamic shear strength of 112 lb/in² per ASTM D1002, and a tensile strength of 104 lb/in² per ASTM D897. Static shear strength at 72°F is 1,000 grams (per 1/2 in² for 10,000 minutes / 7 days) per ASTM 3654. The tape offers excellent solvent and UV resistance and is rated for short-term use to 248°F and long-term to 194°F.
Shelf life is 18 months; store in original packaging in a dry environment between 39.2°F and 100.4°F. Minimum recommended application temperature is 59°F. Minimum bond line pressure required is 14.5 psi.
What differentiates AM9806 from AM9804 and AM9808 in the AFTC Acrylic Coating 91 series?
AM9806 at 0.025" provides higher peel adhesion (15 lb/in) than AM9804 (13 lb/in) while sharing the same dynamic shear strength of 112 lb/in² and tensile strength of 104 lb/in² as the AM9808 grade. Its short-term temperature resistance of 248°F is higher than AM9804's 212°F. Compared to AM9808 (0.031"), the only differences are thickness and peel adhesion — AM9808 achieves 16 lb/in vs. AM9806's 15 lb/in.
Why is peel adhesion important for acrylic foam tape selection?
Peel adhesion at 90° measures the resistance of the bond to delamination forces — the load mode most encountered when assemblies flex, vibrate, or experience differential movement. For LSE substrates including PP and TPE, Acrylic Coating 91 is specifically formulated to deliver adhesion without priming. AM9806 achieves a 90° peel adhesion of 15 lb/in per ASTM D3330.
What is the operating temperature range for AM9806?
AM9806 has a minimum temperature resistance of -40°F, a long-term temperature resistance of 194°F, and a short-term temperature resistance of 248°F.
Is AM9806 suitable for automotive or regulated environments?
No compliance standards are specified on the manufacturer's TDS for AM9806. The TDS describes the tape as conforming to the highest standards for automotive applications on LSE materials, powder-coated surfaces, and automotive lacquers, and states that it bonds these substrates without the use of a primer.
How should AM9806 be specified?
Specify grade (AM9806 / H-O part number SRMAM9806), thickness (0.025" ±15%), adhesive system (Acrylic Coating 91 / LSE primer-free), liner type (Red PE), substrate type and surface preparation requirements, bond line pressure (minimum 14.5 psi), dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
