AFTC HA7412

AFTC HA7412 is a 0.047″ thick double-sided acrylic foam tape with a dual adhesive construction: a heat-activated hotmelt film on one side and a pressure sensitive acrylic coating on the other. The hotmelt side forms a strong, permanent bond with extruded EPDM and TP seals when heat-activated, while the acrylic side delivers a 90° peel adhesion of 24 lb/in per ASTM D3330. The tape is rated for long-term temperature resistance to 212°F and short-term exposure to 320°F.

    AFTC HA7412 is the thickest grade in the H-O Products Heat Activated tape series at 0.047″, engineered for double-sided bonding applications that require both a permanent heat-activated bond to extruded rubber seals and a pressure sensitive bond to a mating substrate. The construction consists of an acrylic adhesive foam core coated on one side with Acrylic Coating 47 and on the other with a hotmelt film, supplied with a red PE release liner.

    The hotmelt side remains inactive at ambient temperatures until heat-activated, at which point it melts and fuses with extruded EPDM or thermoplastic seals to form a strong, permanent bond. The acrylic pressure sensitive side uses the same adhesive system found in the H-O Products Automotive tape series.

    The tape exhibits excellent UV resistance and solvent resistance, with a closed cell foam structure and a density of 52 lb/ft³. Static shear performance is rated at 1,000 grams at 72°F and 500 grams at both 150°F and 200°F (½ in² holding for 10,000 minutes / 7 days per ASTM 3654). Recommended application temperature is a minimum of 59°F, and a minimum bond line pressure of 14.5 psi is required to achieve full adhesion.

    End-strength is reached within 72 hours, or within 20 minutes when used with H-O Products primer 33 or primer 101. Shelf life is 18 months when stored in the original packaging at 39.2°F to 100.4°F.

    What differentiates AFTC HA7412 from thinner grades in the AFTC heat activated series?

    AFTC HA7412 is the thickest grade in the AFTC heat activated series at 0.047", offering the greatest gap-filling capability and the highest peel adhesion in the series at 24 lb/in — 50% higher than the 16 lb/in delivered by the 0.016" HA7404 and 0.032" HA7408. The thicker foam core also reduces dynamic shear strength to 84 lb/in² and tensile strength to 84 lb/in², compared to 94 lb/in² and 107 lb/in² respectively in the thinner grades.

    Why is peel adhesion important for heat activated double-sided tapes?

    Peel adhesion measures the force required to remove the pressure sensitive side of the tape from a substrate at a 90° angle.
