APTIV™ XPI A107 is part of the APTIV™ XPI series of PEEK films engineered for high-voltage electric motor stator insulation. At 150 µm, it is the third gauge in the XPI A-series, delivering a breakdown voltage of 21.6 kV — the highest in the series at this thickness level below the 200 µm A108 grade.

It is designed for applications where higher dielectric margins are required within 800 V and above electric machines, while still offering the long-term thermal stability, mechanical robustness, and chemical resistance characteristic of the XPI product family. The film carries an RTI Elec of 240°C per UL 746B, a glass transition onset of 143°C, and a melting temperature of 343°C per ISO 11357.

Tensile stress at 150 µm is 110 MPa in both MD and TD with elongation exceeding 150% in both directions, suitable for automated stator assembly processes. The film is compatible with a wide range of impregnation resins and offers optimized wear resistance for resin-free machine concepts. CLTE below Tg is 3.5E-5 cm/cm/°C (ASTM D696) and through-plane thermal conductivity is 0.25 W/m·K (ASTM E1461).

Breakdown voltage retention at 180°C is >95.0% per IEC 60243. The standard supply format is a 650 mm wide roll, 850 m length, on a 152 mm (6″) core, with a standard roll outer diameter of 450 mm.

No compliance standards are specified on the manufacturer’s TDS for this material. The TDS references UL 746B for the RTI Elec value and IEC/ASTM test methods for property characterization.

    What differentiates APTIV™ XPI A107 from A105, A106, and A108?

APTIV™ XPI A107 at 150 µm delivers a breakdown voltage of 21.6 kV — higher than A105 (16.2 kV at 100 µm) and A106 (18.9 kV at 125 µm), and below A108 (25.9 kV at 200 µm). Its partial discharge inception voltage at 23°C is 1280 V, the highest among the three thinner unfilled grades. A107 is selected when the application demands greater dielectric margin than A106 provides but slot geometry permits the 150 µm gauge.

Why does tensile strength matter when selecting an e-motor insulation film?

In stator slot liner applications, the film must withstand the mechanical forces of automated insertion equipment, winding tension, and long-term vibration in service without tearing or cracking. APTIV™ XPI A107 achieves 110 MPa tensile stress in both MD and TD at 150 µm, combined with >150% elongation, ensuring reliable processing on automated assembly lines and mechanical durability throughout the motor's service life.

What is the operating temperature range for APTIV™ XPI A107?

The TDS reports a glass transition temperature onset of 143°C and a melting temperature of 343°C per ISO 11357. The Relative Thermal Index (Electrical) is rated at 240°C per UL 746B, indicating long-term electrical performance at this temperature.

Is APTIV™ XPI A107 suitable for regulated environments?

The TDS reports an RTI Elec of 240°C per UL 746B. No additional compliance certifications are listed on the manufacturer's TDS for this material.

How should APTIV™ XPI A107 be specified?

Specify grade (APTIV™ XPI A107), thickness (150 µm), compliance requirements, dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
