ArmaGel® DT is a flexible aerogel insulation blanket specifically engineered for cryogenic and dual-temperature (cyclic) operating conditions, incorporating an integrated zero-perm vapour barrier that achieves 0.00 perm water vapour transmission per ASTM E96 — a critical feature in preventing moisture ingress in below-ambient and cryogenic insulation systems.
It complies with ASTM C1728 Type IV, Grade 1A and is available in four thicknesses from 0.2″ to 0.8″. The material is suited for insulation and protection of pipes, vessels, and ducts (including elbows, fittings, and flanges) in cryogenic, offshore, industrial, and oil and gas process facilities, and can be used as a component of ArmaSound® Industrial Systems for acoustic insulation on industrial pipework and vessels.
The material is hydrophobic and passes ASTM C1763 water absorption by immersion with a maximum of 8%. Compressive strength at 10% compression is ≥5 psi per ASTM C165, linear shrinkage under soaking heat is <2% in width and length per ASTM C356, water vapour sorption is ≤5% by weight per ASTM C1104, and fungal resistance shows no growth per ASTM C1338. Flexibility is classified per ASTM C1101.
Corrosiveness to steel passes ASTM C1617 Procedure A, and stress corrosion cracking passes ASTM C692 and ASTM C795 for use over austenitic steel. Marine approvals include IMO 2010 FTP Code Parts 2 and 5, and Module B certification per Marine Equipment Directive 2014/90/EU including Bureau Veritas certification.

What differentiates ArmaGel® DT from ArmaGel® HT, HTL, Rail, and XGC?
ArmaGel® DT is a cryogenic and dual-temperature grade (ASTM C1728 Type IV, Grade 1A) with an integrated zero-perm vapour barrier (0.00 perm, ASTM E96) and a service temperature range of -292°F to 482°F. Its thermal conductivity curve extends from -200°F to 400°F. It uniquely carries IMO 2010 FTP Code and MED 2014/90/EU Module B marine approvals. ArmaGel® HT and HTL are high-temperature grades to 1200°F without integrated vapour barriers. ArmaGel® Rail is a rail-specific double-side laminated grade with a 230°F service maximum. ArmaGel® XGC also targets cryogenic applications but achieves lower thermal conductivity values at comparable temperatures.
Why does thermal conductivity matter when selecting aerogel insulation?
Thermal conductivity is the primary selection criterion for insulation materials, as it directly determines the insulation thickness required to achieve a target heat gain or loss. At 0.015 W/m·K at -200°F, ArmaGel® DT provides extremely effective cryogenic insulation in a thin blanket profile, enabling installation in congested spaces and around complex geometries such as elbows and flanges where conventional insulation thicknesses are impractical.
What is the service temperature range for ArmaGel® DT?
The service temperature range for ArmaGel® DT is -292°F minimum to 482°F maximum per ASTM C411 as listed on the TDS.
Is ArmaGel® DT suitable for marine and regulated environments?
Yes. ArmaGel® DT complies with IMO 2010 FTP Code Parts 2 and 5, is approved under MED 2014/90/EU Module B, and is Bureau Veritas certified. It also passes ASTM E84 (Flame Spread Index ≤25; Smoke Development ≤50) and ASTM C692/C795 for use over austenitic stainless steel.
How should ArmaGel® DT be specified?
Specify grade (ArmaGel® DT), thickness, compliance requirements (ASTM C1728 Type IV Grade 1A, IMO, MED, and others as applicable), dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
