ArmaGel® HT is a flexible aerogel blanket engineered for elevated temperature insulation of pipes, vessels, and ducts in industrial, offshore, and process equipment facilities where service temperatures reach up to 1200°F. It complies with ASTM C1728 Type III, Grade 1A and is also suited for aerospace, electronic, and automotive applications due to its lightweight construction, flexibility, and high performance at extreme temperatures.
The material can be used in multi-layer applications with ArmaSound® Industrial Systems. Unlike ArmaGel® DT and XGC, ArmaGel® HT does not incorporate an integrated vapour barrier, making it the appropriate grade for above-ambient high-temperature insulation where condensation control is not required.
The material is hydrophobic and passes ASTM C1763 for water absorption and ASTM C1104 with water vapour sorption ≤5 by weight. Compressive strength at 10% compression is ≥3 psi per ASTM C165, linear shrinkage under soaking heat is <2% in width and length per ASTM C356, and fungal growth shows no growth per ASTM C1338. Hot surface performance passes ASTM C411, and stress corrosion cracking passes ASTM C692 and ASTM C795. Reaction to Fire is B-s1, d0 per EN 13501-1.
Compliant with ASTM C1728 Type III, Grade 1A; ASTM C165; ASTM C356; ASTM C411; ASTM C447; ASTM C692; ASTM C795; ASTM C1101; ASTM C1104; ASTM C1338; ASTM C1763; ASTM E84; EN 13501-1.
What differentiates ArmaGel® HT from ArmaGel® DT, HTL, Rail, and XGC?
ArmaGel® HT is a high-temperature grade (ASTM C1728 Type III, Grade 1A) with a 1200°F service maximum and an 8-point thermal conductivity curve from 75°F to 700°F. Unlike DT and XGC, it has no integrated vapour barrier and is not rated for cryogenic service. Compared to HTL, HT has a higher density (11 versus 9.5 lb/ft³), a higher compressive strength minimum (≥3 psi versus not listed for HTL), and a broader set of ASTM compliance tests. ArmaGel® Rail has a 230°F service maximum and is a rail-specific laminated construction.
Why does thermal conductivity matter when selecting aerogel insulation?
Thermal conductivity determines the insulation thickness required to achieve a target heat loss at the system operating temperature. ArmaGel® HT's conductivity of 0.021 W/m·K at 75°F rising to 0.043 W/m·K at 700°F allows engineers to achieve the required thermal resistance in a thinner blanket profile compared to conventional insulation materials — a significant advantage in congested industrial environments and for complex pipe geometries.
What is the service temperature range for ArmaGel® HT?
The service temperature maximum for ArmaGel® HT is 1200°F per ASTM C411 and ASTM C447 as listed on the TDS. No minimum service temperature is listed on the TDS for this grade.
Is ArmaGel® HT suitable for regulated environments?
Yes. ArmaGel® HT complies with ASTM C1728 Type III Grade 1A, achieves Flame Spread Index ≤5 and Smoke Development ≤10 per ASTM E84, and carries a Reaction to Fire classification of B-s1, d0 per EN 13501-1. It also passes ASTM C692 and ASTM C795 for use over austenitic stainless steel.
How should ArmaGel® HT be specified?
Specify grade (ArmaGel® HT), thickness, compliance requirements (ASTM C1728 Type III Grade 1A, ASTM E84, EN 13501-1, and others as applicable), dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
