Common industries: LNG, oil and gas, offshore, cryogenic processing, petrochemical, marine, industrial manufacturing.
ArmaGel® XGC is the highest-performance cryogenic grade in the ArmaGel® product family, delivering the lowest thermal conductivity values at all measured temperatures — 0.014 W/m·K at -200°F and 0.017 W/m·K at both 75°F and 100°F — outperforming ArmaGel® DT at equivalent temperature points. It is the only grade in the ArmaGel® line to carry dual ASTM C1728 compliance designations: Type 1, Grade 1B and Type IV, Grade 1A.
Like ArmaGel® DT, it incorporates an integrated zero-prem vapour barrier achieving 0.00 perm water vapor permeance per ASTM E96, and is designed for cryogenic and cyclic (dual-temperature) operating conditions.
It is suited for cold, cryogenic, and dual-temperature insulation of pipes, vessels, equipment, and fittings in offshore, industrial (typically oil and gas), and process facilities, and is suitable for use in multi-layer applications including ArmaSound® Industrial Systems.
The material has a compressive strength of ≥5 psi at 10% compression per ASTM C165, linear shrinkage under soaking heat <2% in width and length per ASTM C356, water vapour sorption ≤5% by weight per ASTM C1104, and water absorption passes ASTM C1763. Fungal resistance shows no growth per ASTM C1338, corrosiveness to steel passes ASTM C1617 Procedure A, and stress corrosion cracking passes ASTM C692 and ASTM C795.
Reaction to fire is B-s1, d0 per EN 13501-1. Marine approvals include IMO 2010 FTP Code Part 5 (surface flammability) and Part 2 (smoke generation and toxicity). Flexibility passes ASTM C1101.
Compliant with ASTM C1728 Type 1 Grade 1B and Type IV Grade 1A; ASTM C165; ASTM C356; ASTM C411; ASTM C692; ASTM C795; ASTM C1101; ASTM C1104; ASTM C1338; ASTM C1617; ASTM C1763; ASTM E84; ASTM E96; EN 13501-1; IMO 2010 FTP Code Parts 2 and 5.
What differentiates ArmaGel® XGC from ArmaGel® DT, HT, HTL, and Rail?
ArmaGel® XGC achieves the lowest thermal conductivity in the ArmaGel® family at all measured temperatures — 0.014 W/m·K at -200°F versus 0.015 W/m·K for ArmaGel® DT at the same temperature. It is the only grade carrying dual ASTM C1728 type designations (Type 1 Grade 1B and Type IV Grade 1A). Like DT, it has an integrated zero-prem vapour barrier (0.00 perm) and a cryogenic service range to -292°F. Unlike DT, it has three (not four) standard thickness options and does not list MED 2014/90/EU Module B or Bureau Veritas certification on its TDS.
Why does thermal conductivity matter when selecting aerogel insulation?
In cryogenic applications, the lowest possible thermal conductivity directly minimizes heat gain into the cold process system — preserving process conditions, reducing boil-off losses in LNG and cryogenic systems, and enabling thinner insulation profiles in space-constrained offshore and industrial installations. At 0.014 W/m·K at -200°F, ArmaGel® XGC provides the most thermally efficient insulation in the ArmaGel® product family for cryogenic service.
What is the service temperature range for ArmaGel® XGC?
The service temperature range for ArmaGel® XGC is -292°F minimum to 482°F maximum per ASTM C411 as listed on the TDS.
Is ArmaGel® XGC suitable for marine and regulated environments?
Yes. ArmaGel® XGC complies with IMO 2010 FTP Code Parts 2 and 5, achieves Reaction to Fire B-s1, d0 per EN 13501-1, passes ASTM E84 (Flame Spread Index ≤25; Smoke Development ≤50), and complies with ASTM C692 and ASTM C795 for use over austenitic stainless steel.
How should ArmaGel® XGC be specified?
Specify grade (ArmaGel® XGC), thickness, compliance requirements (ASTM C1728 Type 1 Grade 1B and/or Type IV Grade 1A, IMO, EN 13501-1, and others as applicable), dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
