BISCO® 7130 is the softest and lowest-density grade in the BISCO® flame resistant closed-cell silicone sponge series at 31 lb/ft³ and 2–7 psi CFD at 25%. It is designed for flame resistant sealing applications where minimal closure force is available to compress the gasket, while still meeting the stringent aerospace, automotive, and UL flame standards required by the application.
Available in ten thicknesses from 0.125″ to 1.00″, it addresses large-gap sealing and conformable seal applications where the softer grade is necessary for adequate contact with irregular mating surfaces. The material exhibits temperature independency and UV and ozone resistance across its service range.
Compression set is 35% at 22 hours, 212°F per ASTM D1056, and water absorption is <5% per ASTM D1056. The material passes FMVSS302 for automotive flame compliance, passes UL94 HBF‡ — the only grade in this series to carry UL94 HBF certification — and meets BMS 1-60 Type 1 Grade A for aerospace sealing applications. What differentiates BISCO® 7130 from other grades in the BISCO® flame resistant silicone sponge series?
7130 is the softest grade in the series with the lowest density (31 lb/ft³) and lowest CFD range (2–7 psi at 25%), requiring less closure force to compress fully than 7330 (7–14 psi) or 7430 (14–22 psi). It is the only grade in the series to carry UL94 HBF‡ certification in addition to BMS 1-60 and FMVSS302. Its minimum thickness starts at 0.125" — thicker than the 0.063" minimum of 7330 and 7430 — and it has a lower tensile strength (75 psi) than 7430 (>200 psi) and 7330 (>100 psi).
Why is compression set critical for a soft flame resistant silicone sponge?
