ENSOLITE® IG1 is a medium/soft, conformable, closed cell vinyl nitrile foam based on a PVC/NBR/CR polymer blend. It is designed for sealing and gasketing applications where conformability at low compression loads is required, including tonneau cover sealing tape, truck tool box sealing tape, curtainwall mullion end dams, and acoustic panel tape. The closed cell structure provides resistance to moisture absorption (10% max) and good weather resistance.
ENSOLITE® IG1 is flame retardant and passes FMVSS-302 at 0.094 in or thicker. It carries UL-94 HF-1, V-0, and 5VA listings (contact customer service for specification inquiries and UL information). Fluid immersion is limited to 100% max per ASTM D1056. The compression deflection change after oven aging is 30% max, confirming acceptable dimensional stability under elevated-temperature aging conditions.

What differentiates ENSOLITE® IG1 from the IG2 and IG3 grades?
ENSOLITE® IG1 is the softest grade in the IG series, with a compression deflection at 25% of 2–5 psi and a density of 4–6 lb/ft³. IG2 is a medium density grade (5.5–7.5 lb/ft³, 5–9 psi), and IG3 is a high density, firm grade (7–9 lb/ft³, 9–13 psi). IG1 is selected when maximum conformability and low compression load are the primary requirements.
Why is compression set critical for a closed cell foam used in sealing and gasketing applications?
Compression set measures the permanent deformation a foam retains after sustained compression. For gaskets and sealing tapes installed under long-term load, excessive compression set means the material will not recover its original thickness, reducing the seal integrity and allowing infiltration of moisture, air, and contaminants. ENSOLITE® IG1 is rated at 25% max at 50% compression per ASTM D1056.
