- High-resistance tonneau cover and truck tool box sealing tape where firmer compression characteristics are required
- Curtainwall mullion end dams in commercial glazing systems requiring a structurally robust, flame-rated foam seal
- Acoustic panel tape in assemblies where higher density foam improves vibration damping
- Gasketing and sealing components requiring the highest tensile strength and tear resistance in the IG series
- Fluid-resistant seals and closures in outdoor enclosures and industrial storage systems

ENSOLITE® IG3 is the highest density and firmest grade in the IG series of closed cell vinyl nitrile foams, built on a PVC/NBR/CR polymer blend. With a compression deflection at 25% of 9–13 psi and a tensile strength of 100 psi min, IG3 is suited for sealing and gasketing applications where greater resistance to compression and higher structural integrity are required. Typical uses include tonneau cover sealing tape, truck tool box sealing tape, curtainwall mullion end dams, and acoustic panel tape.
The closed cell construction provides very good resistance to moisture and fluid ingress, with water absorption limited to 5% max and fluid immersion to 100% max per ASTM D1056. ENSOLITE® IG3 is flame retardant and passes FMVSS-302. It carries UL 94 HF-1, HBF, V-0, V-1, and 5VA listings (contact customer service for specification inquiries and UL information). Compression deflection change after oven aging is held to 30% max per ASTM D1056.
Compliant with ASTM D1056 2B3 (Suffixes B2, M); ASTM D6576 Type II A, B, Medium; FMVSS-302 (Pass); UL 94 HF-1 Listed; UL 94 HBF Listed; UL 94 V-0 Listed; UL 94 V-1 Listed; UL 94 5VA Listed.
What differentiates ENSOLITE® IG3 from the IG1 and IG2 grades?
ENSOLITE® IG3 is the firmest and highest density grade in the IG series, with a compression deflection at 25% of 9–13 psi, a density of 7–9 lb/ft³, tensile strength of 100 psi min, and tear strength of 15 lb/in min — all the highest values in the series. It also carries additional flame listings (V-1) not present on IG1, and its lower water absorption limit (5% max vs. 10% max for IG1 and IG2) makes it preferable in more demanding moisture-exposure environments.
Why is compression set critical for a closed cell foam used in sealing and gasketing applications?
Compression set measures the permanent deformation a foam retains after sustained compression. For gaskets and sealing tapes installed under long-term load, excessive compression set means the material will not recover its original thickness, reducing seal integrity and allowing infiltration of moisture, air, and contaminants. ENSOLITE® IG3 is rated at 25% max at 50% compression per ASTM D1056.
What is the service temperature range for ENSOLITE® IG3?
The service temperature range is -20°F to 200°F as stated on the TDS.
Is ENSOLITE® IG3 suitable for flame-rated environments?
Yes. ENSOLITE® IG3 carries UL 94 HF-1, HBF, V-0, V-1, and 5VA listings, and passes FMVSS-302. Contact customer service for specification inquiries and UL information.
How should ENSOLITE® IG3 be specified?
Specify grade (ENSOLITE® IG3), thickness, color (Black), compliance requirements (ASTM D1056 designation, UL listing, and/or FMVSS-302), dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
