    • Dust shields in less severe conditions where a soft, highly absorbent felt is appropriate
    • Priming filtration applications requiring high air permeability and liquid absorption
    • Equestrian padding requiring a compliant, resilient wool felt
    • Light-duty wiping and sealing where the highest liquid absorption in the grey felt series is needed
    • Anti-squeak and anti-rattle padding in light-duty industrial assemblies

Common industries: Industrial equipment, filtration, equestrian, light industrial, packaging.

F-11 SAE Pressed Felt is the softest and most absorbent of the grey pressed felt grades, rated 5 on a firmness scale of 1–10, and classified as ASTM D2475 18R2. With a nominal specific density of 0.18 g/cm³ — the lowest in the series — and 15–25 Shore A hardness, it is intended for light-duty applications including dust shields in less severe conditions, priming filtration, equestrian padding, and light-duty wiping and sealing.

Liquid absorption by weight exceeds 375%, and by volume is 88%. The open structure is reflected in the high air permeability (75–150 cfm/sq ft/0.5″ H₂O at 1/16″) and noise reduction coefficient of 0.64 at 1 in — the highest NRC in the SAE pressed felt series. The TDS notes the F-11 will break down quicker in use than an F-7 and is not suited for precision or demanding applications.

Dynamic vibration absorption is rated Medium–High; static vibration absorption is Low. Thermal condition is 0.24 btu/hr/sq ft/°F/in — the lowest in the series, reflecting its open, low-density structure.

    Compliant with ASTM D2475 — Classification 18R2.

What differentiates F-11 SAE Pressed Felt from the F-7 and F-10 grades?

F-11 SAE Pressed Felt is the softest grey felt in the SAE series, rated 5 on a firmness scale of 1–10, compared to F-7 which also rates 7. The TDS states that F-11 will break down quicker in use than an F-7, making it appropriate only for less severe or light-duty applications. It delivers the highest liquid absorption in the grey felt range (>375% by weight) and the highest NRC (0.64) in the entire SAE pressed felt series, reflecting its low density (0.18 g/cm³) and open structure.

Why is hardness important for felt selection in industrial applications?

Hardness in pressed felt governs how the material deforms under load, affecting its performance in sealing, wicking, filtration, and vibration absorption applications. F-11's 15–25 Shore A hardness and 4 psi compressibility at 10% deflection make it the softest grade available, appropriate for dust shields, filtration, and light-duty padding where maximum compliance and liquid absorption are the priority rather than structural durability or dimensional stability.

What is the temperature range for F-11 SAE Pressed Felt?

F-11 SAE Pressed Felt is rated for service from -80°F to +200°F (-62°C to +93°C), as listed on the TDS.

Is F-11 SAE Pressed Felt suitable for specification-controlled industrial environments?

Yes. F-11 SAE Pressed Felt is classified as ASTM D2475 18R2 and meets Federal Specification C-F-206G 9R2, as listed on the TDS. Note that the TDS indicates this grade will break down quicker in use than an F-7, and it is intended for less severe conditions.

How should F-11 SAE Pressed Felt be specified?

Specify grade (F-11 SAE Pressed Felt), thickness, compliance requirements (ASTM D2475 18R2 / C-F-206G 9R2), dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
