Common industries: aerospace, military, defense, and industrial chemical processing.

Fluorozone Mil-Spec Performance FKM is a high-performance fluoroelastomer (FKM/Viton®-family) sheet rubber within the Fluorozone product line, formulated to meet AMS 3216 — which supersedes MIL-R-83248 — and qualified to MIL-R-83248C Type II Class 1. The 75 Shore A material is positioned for aerospace, military, and high-temperature industrial sealing applications, and is the higher-temperature, higher-tensile counterpart to Fluorozone Premium Performance grade.

The compound delivers 1850 psi typical tensile strength (1600 psi minimum) and 150% typical ultimate elongation (125% minimum), with an operating temperature range of -20°F to +500°F. Fluorozone exhibits very good resistance to many aliphatic hydrocarbon fluids that can dissolve other types of rubber, along with resistance to a broad range of oils, fuels, lubricants, and most mineral acids.

The material is supplied with a standard smooth finish and contains talc as a processing aid; textured (fabric) and matte finishes are available on most materials at additional cost. Roll widths are offered at 36″ or 48″ untrimmed (with up to approximately 3″ of additional width), with custom widths available up to 55″ and trimmed rolls available on request. Molded sheets are available up to 4″ thick.

Thickness tolerances follow standard RMA classifications; closer tolerances and custom thicknesses can be priced on request. Manufactured in the USA.

Compliant with AMS 3216G, MIL-R-83248C Type II Class 1, and the Buy American Act.

What differentiates Fluorozone Mil-Spec Performance FKM from Fluorozone Premium Performance grade?

Fluorozone Mil-Spec Performance FKM exhibits a higher temperature range — up to +500°F — and increased tensile strength compared to the Premium Performance grade. It is also qualified to AMS 3216 (which supersedes MIL-R-83248) and MIL-R-83248C Type II Class 1, making it the appropriate choice when the application requires documented mil-spec compliance and the elevated thermal and mechanical performance that comes with it.

Why is chemical resistance critical for this material?

The defining function of an FKM such as Fluorozone is sustained sealing performance in contact with aggressive fluids that dissolve or degrade other elastomers. Many aliphatic hydrocarbon fluids will swell or break down general-purpose rubber, leading to seal failure and contamination. Fluorozone Mil-Spec is formulated to provide very good resistance to those fluids along with a broad range of oils, fuels, lubricants, and most mineral acids, which is why it is specified for fuel system, lubrication, and chemical-exposure sealing.

What is the operating temperature range for Fluorozone Mil-Spec Performance FKM?

The operating temperature range is -20°F to +500°F.

Is Fluorozone Mil-Spec Performance FKM suitable for aerospace, military, and Buy American Act–regulated environments?

Yes. The material is manufactured in the USA, complies with the Buy American Act, and is qualified to AMS 3216G and MIL-R-83248C Type II Class 1, making it suitable for aerospace, military, defense, and federal procurement applications calling out those standards.

How should Fluorozone Mil-Spec Performance FKM be specified?

Specify grade (Fluorozone Mil-Spec Performance FKM, compound 075F0212), thickness (roll or molded sheet), roll width, finish (smooth, textured/fabric, or matte), trimmed or untrimmed rolls, dimensional tolerances, compliance requirements (AMS 3216G and/or MIL-R-83248C Type II Class 1), and finished format.
