GORE® Automotive Vents for Exterior Lighting
GORE® Automotive Vents for Exterior Lighting are a family of adhesive-mounted ePTFE membrane vent components providing condensation reduction, pressure equalization, and ingress protection for automotive exterior lighting systems including headlamps, rear lamps, and accessory lamps. The portfolio spans thirteen variants organized by lamp category: four headlamp variants (AVS 120, AVS 9, AVS 113, AVS 100), five rear lamp variants (AVS 2, AVS 5, AVS 600/610, AVS 601/611, AVS 602/612), and four accessory lamp variants (AVS 2, AVS 5, AVS 118, AVS 119). All variants use 100% ePTFE membrane (AM2XX or AM6XL depending on series) with AD103 silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive, hydrophobic and oleophobic treatment, and an operating temperature range of -40 °C to +150 °C.
Water Entry Pressure (assembly) is > 345 mbar (> 5.0 psi) for 60 seconds across all headlamp, rear lamp AVS 2/5, and accessory lamp variants; the AVS 600/601/602 rear lamp series carries > 206 mbar (> 3.0 psi) for 60 seconds. All headlamp and rear lamp variants achieve IP6KX dust protection and IPX7 water immersion per ISO 20653:2013. IP spray resistance ratings vary by variant and target frame configuration. Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate (MVTR, ASTM E96 Water method) ranges from 18 mg moisture/day (AVS 118) to 710 mg moisture/day (AVS 600/610).
All parts are manufactured at a facility certified to IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001. Adhesive parts should be stored in cool dry conditions (22 °C / 50% RH), out of direct sunlight, and are most easily removed from the product carrier within one year of the packaging date.

- Condensation reduction and pressure equalization in automotive headlamp assemblies requiring high moisture diffusion rates and IP6KX/IPX7 ingress protection
- Rear lamp venting in space-constrained LED and traditional lamp designs requiring high moisture diffusion per footprint
- Accessory and brand-emblem lamp venting in the smallest available footprints (OD 7.00–10.00 mm) for space-limited packaging
- Pressure equalization venting in EV exterior lighting modules including thin modular lamp designs integrating sensing or communication devices
- Water, dust, and dirt exclusion at lamp housing apertures across passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and electric vehicles
Common industries: Automotive, exterior lighting, EV lighting systems, tier supplier manufacturing.
GORE® Automotive Vents for Exterior Lighting are all-membrane adhesive vent components designed to maintain the reliability and longevity of automotive lighting systems across the full vehicle life. By allowing bidirectional airflow through a microporous ePTFE membrane while blocking water, fine dust, and dirt, these vents reduce condensation inside lamp housings and equalize pressure differentials caused by thermal cycling and altitude changes.
All variants use AD103 silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive and bond directly to the lamp housing in multi-up or one-up configurations suitable for manual or automated installation.
The headlamp portfolio offers four variants differentiated by diffusion performance and installation requirements. AVS 120 and AVS 113 are next-generation variants offering the highest diffusion performance in the headlamp range — 700 mg/day and 699 mg/day respectively — for faster condensation clearing. AVS 9 is an industry-standard footprint variant at 610 mg/day. AVS 100 requires no target frame for spray resistance (achieving IPX4 and IPX9K without a frame) and delivers 525 mg/day.
The rear lamp portfolio includes the AVS 2 and AVS 5 small-footprint variants and the AVS 600/601/602 series, which uses the AM6XL membrane type for the highest moisture diffusion per footprint in the rear lamp range — up to 710 mg/day for AVS 600/610. The accessory lamp portfolio shares AVS 2 and AVS 5 with the rear lamp category and adds AVS 118 and AVS 119, the smallest-footprint variants in the portfolio, with outer diameters of 7.00 mm and 10.00 mm respectively.
All variants are rated IP6KX for dust and IPX7 for water immersion per ISO 20653:2013. Spray resistance (IPX6K) is achieved with a protective target frame for most variants; AVS 100 and AVS 113 achieve IPX4 and IPX9K without a target frame. Housings made of high-water-absorption plastics (above 0.15% per ASTM D570, 24 hrs at 23 °C) must be evaluated. Compliant with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 (manufacturing certifications). No additional compliance standards are specified on the manufacturer’s TDS.
How do I select the right exterior lighting vent for my lamp application?
Selection depends on lamp type (headlamp, rear lamp, or accessory), available footprint, and required moisture diffusion rate. For headlamps, AVS 120 and AVS 113 deliver the highest diffusion (700 and 699 mg/day) with a target frame, while AVS 100 achieves IPX4/IPX9K without a target frame at 525 mg/day. For rear lamps requiring maximum diffusion per footprint, AVS 600/610 delivers 710 mg/day. For the smallest accessory lamp housings, AVS 118 (OD 7.00 mm) and AVS 119 (OD 10.00 mm) are available.
Why does moisture vapor transmission rate matter for exterior lamp venting?
Moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR) determines how quickly a vent clears moisture vapor from the lamp interior after thermal cycling, washing, or high-humidity events. Higher MVTR values reduce the duration and severity of lens fogging, maintaining optical clarity and lamp performance. The portfolio spans from 18 mg/day (AVS 118, smallest accessory lamp footprint) to 710 mg/day (AVS 600/610, largest rear lamp footprint), allowing selection based on the housing volume and clearing time requirement.
What is the operating temperature range for GORE® Automotive Vents for Exterior Lighting?
-40 °C to +150 °C for all variants across the headlamp, rear lamp, and accessory lamp portfolios.
Are GORE® Automotive Vents for Exterior Lighting suitable for automotive-grade regulated environments?
Yes. All variants achieve IP6KX dust protection and IPX7 water immersion per ISO 20653:2013, and are manufactured at a facility certified to IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001. Spray resistance ratings (IPX6K, IPX4, IPX9K) vary by variant and target frame configuration. Housings made of high-water-absorption plastics (above 0.15% per ASTM D570) must be evaluated.
How should GORE® Automotive Vents for Exterior Lighting be specified?
Specify lamp category (headlamp, rear lamp, or accessory lamp), variant, configuration (multi-up or one-up), required IP ratings, target frame availability in the housing design, housing material water absorption compliance, and installation method (manual or automated).
