GORE® Automotive Vents for Powertrain
GORE® Automotive Vents for Powertrain are ePTFE membrane vent components incorporating an integrated sorbent pre-filter, available in two mounting formats: Direct-Fit (AVS 2148 / VE2148) and Tube-Mount (AVS 41 / VE2048). Both deliver identical core performance — minimum airflow of 64 l/h at 70 mbar (1 psi), Water Entry Pressure (assembly) > 345 mbar (> 5.0 psi) for 60 seconds, IP ratings of IPX9K, IPX6K, IPX8, IP6X, and IPX4, and an operating temperature range of -40 °C to +125 °C. Both use a GORE Membrane oleophobic ePTFE membrane, a PA6.6 Impact modified cap, and a sorbent pre-filter that protects the membrane from internal oil aerosols.
The Direct-Fit variant (VE2148) uses a PA6.6–GF13 body with an HNBR quad-ring and installs directly into the component housing via snap-fit. The Tube-Mount variant (VE2048) uses a PA6.6–GF33 body with no quad-ring and connects to the component via a tube, allowing the vent to be distanced from heat sources or lubricant exposure. Both variants are designed for e-drivetrain applications (e-axles, oil-cooled e-motors) and traditional powertrain components (transfer cases, power transfer units, solid beams, rear/front drive modules).
Manufactured at a facility certified to IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001. Vertical mounting, or within ±60° of vertical, is recommended for both variants.

Common industries: Automotive, electric vehicle, hybrid vehicle, powertrain systems, e-drivetrain.
GORE® Automotive Vents for Powertrain address the pressure equalization and ingress protection requirements of both electrified drivetrain components — including e-axles and oil-cooled e-motors — and traditional powertrain assemblies such as transfer cases, power transfer units, solid beams, and rear/front drive modules.
As packaging constraints push e-drivetrain components closer to the road surface, these components face increasing exposure to water, submersion, and road contaminants.
The ePTFE membrane rapidly equalizes internal pressure differentials to avert seal stress, while the integrated sorbent pre-filter protects the membrane from oil aerosols generated internally — a critical feature for oil-cooled motor applications where an unprotected membrane would quickly degrade.
The two mounting formats address different installation and routing requirements. The Direct-Fit variant (VE2148) has a compact, low-profile construction with a PA6.6–GF13 body and HNBR quad-ring seal, installs directly into the component housing via snap-fit, and is suited to space-constrained e-drivetrain and e-motor applications. Its housing interface was tested using aluminum housing material.
The Tube-Mount variant (VE2048) has a PA6.6–GF33 body, connects via a tube (suggested ID 6.0–8.0 mm, wall thickness 3.0 mm), and allows the vent to be positioned away from high-temperature zones or lubricant-exposed areas — particularly useful for traditional powertrain components. The tube-mount format also simplifies replacement if vent servicing is required.
Both variants share an outer diameter of Ø 26.5 mm and a base diameter of Ø 9.5 mm. Overall height is 30.1 mm for the Direct-Fit (VE2148) and 34.0 mm for the Tube-Mount (VE2048). Compliant with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001. IPX9K test parameters: Pressure = 80 bar, Distance = 150 mm, Temp = 75 °C.
What differentiates the Direct-Fit (VE2148) from the Tube-Mount (VE2048) variant?
Both variants deliver identical performance — same airflow, WEP, IP ratings, temperature range, membrane, and pre-filter. The difference is mounting format and body material. The Direct-Fit (VE2148) snaps directly into the component housing using a compact PA6.6–GF13 body with an HNBR quad-ring seal, making it suited to space-constrained e-drivetrain applications. The Tube-Mount (VE2048) uses a PA6.6–GF33 body and connects via a tube, distancing the vent from heat or lubricant exposure and allowing flexible routing — better suited to traditional powertrain components or applications where replacement access is a consideration.
Why is the integrated sorbent pre-filter critical for powertrain venting applications?
Powertrain components — particularly oil-cooled e-motors and e-axles — generate oil aerosols internally during operation. Without a pre-filter, these aerosols would coat and rapidly degrade the ePTFE membrane, compromising airflow and ingress protection. The integrated sorbent pre-filter in both VE2148 and VE2048 captures these internal oil aerosols before they reach the membrane, preserving long-term venting performance throughout the vehicle life.
What is the operating temperature range for GORE® Automotive Vents for Powertrain?
-40 °C to +125 °C for both the Direct-Fit (VE2148) and Tube-Mount (VE2048) variants.
Are GORE® Automotive Vents for Powertrain suitable for automotive-grade regulated environments?
Yes. Both variants achieve IPX9K (tested at 80 bar, 150 mm distance, 75 °C), IPX6K, IPX8, IP6X, and IPX4 ingress protection, and comply with OEM standards for water wading and fluid containment. They are manufactured at a facility certified to IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001. Both variants are designed to eliminate vent-related wading test failures and associated engineering redesign.
How should GORE® Automotive Vents for Powertrain be specified?
Specify mounting format (Direct-Fit VE2148 or Tube-Mount VE2048), housing material (aluminum interface tested for VE2148; tube ID 6.0–8.0 mm and wall thickness 3.0 mm for VE2048), mounting orientation (vertical or within ±60° of vertical), required IP ratings, and operating temperature range.
