GORE® Automotive Vents for Screw-In and Snap-Fit Installation

GORE® Automotive Vents for Screw-In and Snap-Fit Installation are rugged ePTFE membrane PolyVent components designed to equalize pressure and provide sustained environmental protection in automotive electrical and electronic modules (EEMs), including high-voltage applications. The product family spans six variants across two installation formats: two screw-in variants (Standard Series AMF301190 and High Airflow Series AMF301191) and four snap-fit variants (Standard Series AMF300114, High Temperature Series AMF300167, High Airflow Series AMF300070, and Compact Series AMF300200). All variants use hydrophobic and oleophobic ePTFE membranes housed in PBT or polyamide bodies with EPDM or silicone o-rings and provide IP68 (1 m for 1 h) ingress protection at minimum.

Screw-in variants use an M12×1.5 threaded housing in polyamide (PA66+PA6 blend) with silicone o-rings and are removable for component maintenance. They are UL94 V-0 rated and achieve IPX6K and IPX9K without requiring a protective wall. Snap-fit variants use a PBT-I-GF30 or PBT-GF30 hydrostabilized housing, are UL94 HB rated, require a chamfered through-hole, and achieve IPX9K with a protective wall. All six variants include laser marking for increased traceability. Both screw-in and snap-fit formats are available with an independently-certified Cleanliness Protected (CP) option.

All variants have been extensively tested for thermal shock, climate resistance, salt spray resistance, fluid resistance, vibration and mechanical shock resistance, temperature resistance, and ice-water-shock resistance (excluding AMF300070) per applicable automotive standards. Manufactured at a facility certified to IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001.

Common industries: Automotive, electric vehicle, hybrid vehicle, automotive electronics, ADAS.

GORE® Automotive Vents for Screw-In and Snap-Fit Installation are designed to address the pressure equalization requirements of automotive EEMs — including power control units, converters, inverters, on-board chargers, ISGs, e-axles, traction motors, controllers, sensors, actuators, and hybrid/electric drivetrain components.

These vents rapidly equalize internal pressure differentials caused by temperature cycling and altitude changes while blocking water, automotive fluids, salts, dirt, and mud. The ePTFE membrane pore structure is engineered to be 700x larger than an air molecule (ensuring reliable airflow) while being 20,000x smaller than a drop of water (blocking liquid ingress). The membrane is chemically inert, non-shedding, UV-resistant, and temperature-resistant.

The screw-in format (AMF301190 and AMF301191) is suited to applications requiring periodic maintenance access, such as power electronics, as the vent can be removed and reinstalled. The Standard Screw-In Series (AMF301190) provides typical airflow of ~35 l/h; the High Airflow Screw-In Series (AMF301191) provides ~285 l/h — 8x the typical airflow of the Standard Series — for very large components, electric motors, and hybrid batteries.

Both screw-in variants require housing walls of 3.0 mm with a counter nut, or 5.0 mm without. The snap-fit format provides permanent, secure installation without additional hardware.

The Standard Snap-Fit Series (AMF300114) and High Temperature Series (AMF300167) each deliver typical airflow of ~35 l/h; the High Airflow Snap-Fit Series (AMF300070) delivers ~160 l/h — 5x the Standard Series typical airflow; and the Compact Series (AMF300200) delivers ~28 l/h in a low-profile design for extremely small components with DMC scanning capability.

Environmental durability has been validated per automotive test standards including ISO 16750-4 (thermal shock: 500-cycle minimum; temperature resistance: Tmax for 2,000 hours, Tmin for 168 hours; ice-water-shock: 20 cycles in 5% NaCl ice water, excluding AMF300070), DIN-EN-60068-2-67 (climate: 85 °C, 85% RH, 1,000 hours), DIN EN 60068-2-11 (salt spray: Profile Ka), ISO 16750-5 (fluid resistance), and ISO 16750-3 (vibration and mechanical shock). Compliant with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001.

How do screw-in and snap-fit GORE® Automotive Vents differ, and how do I choose between them?

The screw-in format (AMF301190, AMF301191) is designed for applications requiring maintenance access — the vent can be removed and reinstalled using M12×1.5 threads. It is UL94 V-0 rated and achieves IPX9K without a protective wall, making it suited to power electronics and drivetrain modules that may need servicing. The snap-fit format (AMF300114, AMF300167, AMF300070, AMF300200) provides permanent, secure installation with a chamfered through-hole into 3.5–4.0 mm housing walls. It is UL94 HB rated and achieves IPX9K with a protective wall. Snap-fit variants cover a wider range of series options including a High Temperature Series (to +150 °C) and Compact Series for very small components.

Why is controlling airflow range important for automotive EEM venting?

Automotive enclosures must equalize internal pressure rapidly enough to prevent pressure buildup from damaging seals or allowing contaminant ingress during temperature cycles, yet the vent must not allow so much airflow that contaminants bypass the membrane under dynamic conditions. Each series specifies both minimum and maximum airflow limits at 7 kPa to ensure the vent performs within the range required for the target component size. High airflow variants (AMF301191 at ~285 l/h, AMF300070 at ~160 l/h) are specified for large components, electric motors, and battery assemblies; standard and compact variants provide controlled lower airflow for smaller modules.

What are the operating temperature ranges for GORE® Automotive Vents for Screw-In and Snap-Fit Installation?

    All variants share a minimum operating temperature of -40 °C. Maximum operating temperatures are: +125 °C for Standard Screw-In (AMF301190), High Airflow Screw-In (AMF301191), Snap-Fit Standard (AMF300114), and Snap-Fit High Airflow (AMF300070); +125 °C continuous with +140 °C for a maximum of 168 hours for Snap-Fit Standard (AMF300114); +150 °C for Snap-Fit High Temperature (AMF300167); and +140 °C for Snap-Fit Compact (AMF300200).

Are GORE® Automotive Vents for Screw-In and Snap-Fit Installation suitable for high-voltage and ADAS-regulated automotive environments?

Yes. All variants are manufactured at a facility certified to IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001. Screw-in variants carry UL94 V-0 housing and o-ring ratings; snap-fit variants carry UL94 HB ratings. Both formats are available with an independently-certified Cleanliness Protected (CP) option for applications requiring OEM Technical Cleanliness compliance, including high-voltage EEMs and ADAS applications. Environmental performance has been validated per ISO 16750-4, ISO 16750-3, ISO 16750-5, DIN-EN-60068-2-67, and DIN EN 60068-2-11.

How should GORE® Automotive Vents for Screw-In and Snap-Fit Installation be specified?

Specify installation format (screw-in or snap-fit), series (Standard, High Airflow, High Temperature, or Compact), required IP rating, operating temperature range, housing wall material and thickness, required airflow range, minimum WEP requirement, and whether the Cleanliness Protected (CP) option is needed. Contact your Gore representative for detailed installation drawings, as IP rating performance for IPX6K and IPX9K ratings depends on housing geometry.
