GORE® Packaging Vents
GORE® Packaging Vents are ePTFE membrane breathable barrier components for chemical packaging containers, available in two product formats: Plug-In Vents and Liners. Plug-In Vents include five product series — D38 (IBCs/drums, 50–1,500 liters), D17 (drums/containers, 5–60 liters), D15 (containers/bottles, 1–30 liters), D15 Converse (cartridges, exterior-mount dosing/dispensing, 1–5 liters), and D10 (trigger sprayers/dispensers/bottles, 0.2–2 liters) — plus a specialty D3 series (0.2–1 liter) for applications requiring one-way outside-to-inside pressure equalization only. Liners include Foam Liners (series 323G, 324G, 383G, 384G) for hazardous chemicals and agrochemicals in bottles, and Pulp Induction Liners (series CM6B, CM6C, CM8C) for agrochemical bottles requiring tamper-evident weldable installation.
All plug-in vent series use ePTFE membranes laminated to PE/PP or PET backing materials (except D10 High Repellency Series which has no backing) in HDPE or PP housings with HDPE or PP snap-fit or press-fit integration. The D38 and D17 series include 100% in-line airflow testing, in-line camera testing, and individual laser-marked traceability on all parts; D38, D17, and D15 series are individually laser-marked. Drop Test optimization per European ADR standard 6.1 is confirmed for D38, D17, and D15 Standard and High Repellency Series.

- Pressure equalization venting in IBC and drum packaging (50–1,500 liters) for hazardous chemicals and agrochemicals subject to DOT and ADR regulatory requirements
- Breathable vent integration in drum and container packaging (5–60 liters) for hazardous chemicals, agrochemicals, and biostimulants
- Container and bottle venting (1–30 liters) for agrochemical formulations requiring high liquid repellency and drop-test compliance
- Dispenser, trigger sprayer, and small-bottle venting (0.2–2 liters) for household chemicals and institutional cleaners requiring compact, high-performance membrane venting
- Tamper-evident weldable liner integration in agrochemical bottles requiring both breathability for off-gassing and tamper evidence
Common industries: Agrochemicals, hazardous chemical packaging, institutional cleaners, household chemicals, biostimulants and organic fertilizers.
GORE® Packaging Vents provide breathable barrier protection for containers holding concentrated or hazardous chemical formulations — including agrochemicals, industrial cleaners, biostimulants, organic fertilizers, and household chemicals — where pressure imbalances caused by off-gassing, temperature changes, or product dispensing would otherwise deform the container, cause dangerous spills, or result in costly returns.
The ePTFE membrane allows pressure equalization through bidirectional airflow (or one-way for D3) while preventing liquid leakage, maintaining container integrity across the product lifecycle.
The D38 and D17 plug-in vent series are designed for the largest containers — IBCs and drums from 5 to 1,500 liters — handling the most aggressive hazardous chemicals and agrochemicals. Both series offer Standard and High Airflow variants with HDPE housings in natural or white color, and are available in press-fit or snap-fit integration. D38 delivers typical airflow of 45 l/h (Standard) or 137 l/h (High Airflow) at dp = 12 mbar; D17 delivers 5.6 l/h (Standard) or 15 l/h (High Airflow).
The D15 series covers containers and bottles from 1–30 liters with High Repellency and Standard series in HDPE housings, press-fit only. The D15 Converse addresses cartridges and dosing/dispensing applications where exterior vent integration is required. D10 covers the smallest plug-in vent footprint for trigger sprayers, dispensers, and bottles (0.2–2 liters) in a PP housing, press-fit only.
The D3 specialty series provides outside-to-inside pressure equalization only for the smallest cartridges that do not off-gas but require pressure-balancing for product flow, using a PP housing in gray.
Foam Liners (ePTFE + PE foam construction) are available in Standard (1.1 mm, series 323G/383G) and High Performance (1.9 mm, series 324G/384G) thicknesses, providing full-surface venting for flat-cap designs as drop-in replacements for single-point or unvented liners. Pulp Induction Liners (ePTFE + PE + aluminum + PET + wax + pulp, 1.0 mm) for agrochemical bottles provide weldable tamper-evident installation with venting hole diameters of 0.6 mm (CM6B), 2.0 mm (CM6C), or 2.0 mm (CM8C).
All liners are available in single- and multi-up roll goods in various widths. Compliant with European ADR standard 6.1 (applicable series).
How do I select between Plug-In Vents and Liners for my packaging application?
Plug-In Vents (D38 through D3) are point-entry components that press-fit or snap-fit into a specific location in the container or cap, suited to applications requiring a discrete vent port. Liners (Foam and Pulp Induction) provide full-surface or hole-based venting across the entire cap liner area, integrating without redesigning the cap — a drop-in replacement for existing single-point or unvented liners. For agrochemical bottles requiring tamper evidence, Pulp Induction Liners provide weldable installation with built-in tamper indication.
Why is Water Entry Pressure (WEP) a critical parameter for chemical packaging vents?
WEP determines how much internal liquid pressure the membrane can withstand before leakage occurs. For containers holding hazardous chemicals — especially those subject to drop testing, temperature cycling, or inversion — a high WEP is essential to maintain containment under real-world handling and transport conditions. The D38 and D17 Standard Series and Foam Liners 323G/324G/383G/384G deliver WEP > 0.6 bar and > 1.4 bar respectively, meeting the containment requirements for the most demanding hazardous goods packaging.
What are the airflow ranges across the GORE® Packaging Vent portfolio?
Typical airflow at dp = 12 mbar ranges from 0.04 l/h for the D3 specialty series (designed for underpressure compensation only) to 137 l/h for the D38 High Airflow Series for large IBC/drum applications. Liner airflow is expressed per unit area (Foam Liners: 0.7–1.8 l/h/cm²) or per disc size (Pulp Induction Liners: 0.17–5.93 l/h depending on width and series). All airflow values are based on measurements without liquid contact.
Are GORE® Packaging Vents suitable for DOT- and ADR-regulated dangerous goods packaging?
Yes, for applicable series. The D38, D17, and D15 Standard and High Repellency Series are drop-test optimized per European ADR standard 6.1, and D38/D17/D15 consistently demonstrate compliance with DOT and ADR requirements in varied container systems. D10 and D3 series are not drop-test optimized and are not specified for DOT/ADR dangerous goods packaging.
How should GORE® Packaging Vents be specified?
Specify product series (D38, D17, D15, D15 Converse, D10, D3, or Liner series), sub-series (Standard, High Airflow, High Repellency, or High Performance as applicable), integration method (press-fit or snap-fit for plug-in vents; cap thread or hole-in-cap for liners), container size and packaging content, required WEP, required airflow range, and whether drop-test compliance per ADR standard 6.1 is required for the application.
