HyPUR-cel® I0501
HyPUR-cel® I0501 is an open cell polyurethane foam with a typical density of 5 pcf (3.5–6.5 pcf tolerance) and a 25% Compression Deflection of 1 psi (0.5–2.5 psi tolerance) per ASTM D1056, making it the softest grade in the HyPUR-cel® I-series. The material operates across a service temperature range of -40°F to 250°F and achieves a flammability pass rating per FMVSS-302 at 0.063″ or thicker. I0501 combines very low sealing force with excellent high-temperature compression set, superb compression fatigue properties and dimensional stability, making it well suited for low-closure-force gasketing, dust sealing and light cushioning.

HyPUR-cel® I0501 is the softest grade in the HyPUR-cel® I-series, pairing a 5 pcf density with a 25% Compression Deflection of only 1 psi. It is the grade to specify when a gasket or cushion must seal or conform under the lowest possible closure force, for example on thin plastic housings, lightweight covers and delicate assemblies, while still offering the breathability and long-term recovery that define the series.
The foam exhibits excellent high-temperature compression set (1% per ASTM D1056, 5% per ASTM D3574) and superb compression fatigue properties, so it keeps sealing contact through repeated deflection cycles and elevated temperatures. Its open cell structure permits air and moisture passage, and the material accepts adhesive laminations, fabric bonding, films and custom coatings for fabricated component applications. Like every I-series grade it is built on the same polyurethane platform, so a design can move to I0503 or I0507 for more firmness without requalifying a new chemistry.
Compliant with FMVSS-302 (Pass @ 0.063″ or thicker).
What differentiates I0501 from I0503 and I0507 at the same 5 pcf density?
I0501 is the softest of the three 5 pcf I-series grades with a 25% Compression Deflection of 1 psi, compared with 3 psi for I0503 and 7 psi for I0507. It is selected when the lowest sealing or closure force is the primary design criterion; I0503 and I0507 are chosen as the application needs more support.
Why is compression set critical when selecting a foam for sealing applications?
Compression set measures the permanent deformation a foam retains after being held at a fixed deflection. A low compression set, 1% per ASTM D1056 and 5% per ASTM D3574 for I0501, means the material recovers close to its original thickness after deflection and maintains continuous sealing contact over time and across thermal cycles.
What is the service temperature range for I0501?
I0501 is rated for continuous service from -40°F to 250°F as listed on the Rubberlite property sheet.
Is I0501 suitable for automotive flammability-regulated environments?
Yes. I0501 achieves a pass rating per FMVSS-302 at 0.063" or thicker, making it suitable for automotive interior applications subject to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards flammability requirements.
How should I0501 be specified?
Specify grade (I0501), thickness, compliance requirements (FMVSS-302 if required), dimensional tolerances, and finished format (roll, sheet or die-cut part), plus any adhesive, film or fabric lamination.
