HyPUR-cel® I1208

HyPUR-cel® I1208 is an open cell polyurethane foam with a typical density of 12 pcf (10–14 pcf tolerance) and a 25% Compression Deflection of 8 psi (5.5–10.5 psi tolerance) per ASTM D1056. The material operates across a service temperature range of -40°F to 250°F and achieves a flammability pass rating per FMVSS-302 at 0.063″ or thicker. I1208 offers a medium-firm compression profile at a lower density than I1408, with 70 psi tensile strength, 115% elongation and excellent high-temperature compression set, making it well suited for sealing, gasketing and cushioning applications that need moderate support with a lighter, more economical foam.

HyPUR-cel® I1208 is a mid-density open cell polyurethane foam in the HyPUR-cel® I-series, pairing a 12 pcf density with a 25% Compression Deflection of 8 psi. It delivers the same 8 psi firmness as I1408 at a lower density, making it the more economical choice when moderate sealing force and support are required without the added mass of the 14 pcf grade.

The foam exhibits excellent high-temperature compression set (1% per ASTM D1056, 3% per ASTM D3574) and superb compression fatigue properties, maintaining sealing effectiveness through repeated deflection cycles and elevated operating temperatures. Tensile strength of 70 psi, 115% elongation and 9 lb./in tear strength support clean die-cutting and lamination. The open cell structure permits air and moisture passage, and the material accepts adhesive laminations, fabric bonding, films and custom coatings.

Compliant with FMVSS-302 (Pass @ 0.063″ or thicker).

    What differentiates I1208 from I1408 within the HyPUR-cel® I-series?

Both grades share a 25% Compression Deflection of 8 psi, but I1208 achieves it at 12 pcf while I1408 is a 14 pcf foam. I1208 is specified when the same firmness is needed at lower weight and cost; I1408 offers slightly higher tensile and tear strength for more demanding fabrication.

Why is compression set critical when selecting a foam for sealing applications?

Compression set measures the permanent deformation a foam retains after being held at a fixed deflection. A low compression set, 1% per ASTM D1056 and 3% per ASTM D3574 for I1208, means the material recovers close to its original thickness after deflection and maintains continuous sealing contact over time and across thermal cycles.

What is the service temperature range for I1208?

I1208 is rated for continuous service from -40°F to 250°F as listed on the Rubberlite property sheet.

Is I1208 suitable for automotive flammability-regulated environments?

Yes. I1208 achieves a pass rating per FMVSS-302 at 0.063" or thicker, making it suitable for automotive interior applications subject to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards flammability requirements.

    How should I1208 be specified?

Specify grade (I1208), thickness, compliance requirements (FMVSS-302 if required), dimensional tolerances, and finished format (roll, sheet or die-cut part), plus any adhesive, film or fabric lamination.
