HyPUR-cel® I2428L

HyPUR-cel® I2428L is a low-resiliency, energy-absorbing open cell polyurethane foam with a typical density of 24 pcf (21–27 pcf tolerance) and a 25% Compression Deflection of 28 psi (22–34 psi tolerance) per ASTM D1056. The “L” designation identifies a formulation with 17% resilience per ASTM D2632 that dissipates impact and vibration energy with fast recovery and low hysteresis loss. The material operates across a service temperature range of -40°F to 250°F and combines 220 psi tensile strength, 135% elongation and 22 lb./in tear strength with an exceptionally low compression set of 0.5% per ASTM D1056. Properties are published by Rubberlite as provisional typical values.

HyPUR-cel® I2428L is a high-density low-resiliency “L” grade in the HyPUR-cel® I-series, pairing a 24 pcf density with a 25% Compression Deflection of 28 psi. It is designed for firm, supportive energy-absorbing pads and high-load gasketing: resilience is 17% per ASTM D2632, so the foam dissipates impact and vibration energy with fast recovery and low hysteresis loss rather than rebounding.

Compression set is exceptionally low at 0.5% per ASTM D1056 and 1% per ASTM D3574, and the foam retains the excellent high-temperature compression set, superb compression fatigue properties and dimensional stability of the series. Tensile strength of 220 psi, 135% elongation and 22 lb./in tear strength support demanding die-cutting and lamination, and the material accepts adhesives, fabrics, films and custom coatings.

Rubberlite publishes I2428L as provisional typical properties (issue date 11/6/24). No flammability rating or compliance standards are listed on the current sheet; contact H-O for the latest data or application-specific testing.

    What differentiates I2428L from I2540L and I2015L within the HyPUR-cel® I-series?

All three are low-resiliency "L" grades. I2428L sits between them at 24 pcf and 28 psi Compression Deflection, versus 20 pcf / 15 psi for I2015L and 25 pcf / 40 psi for I2540L. It is specified when a firm energy-absorbing foam is needed with less closure force than the 25 and 30 pcf L grades.

What does the "L" in I2428L mean?

Per Rubberlite's naming convention, the first two digits are density (24 pcf) and the last two are 25% compression deflection (28 psi). The "L" identifies a low-resiliency, energy-absorbing product: I2428L has 17% resilience per ASTM D2632, so it dissipates impact and vibration energy with fast recovery and low hysteresis loss rather than rebounding like a standard I-series grade.

What is the service temperature range for I2428L?

I2428L is rated for continuous service from -40°F to 250°F as listed on the Rubberlite property sheet.

Is I2428L rated for flammability or other compliance standards?

No flammability rating or compliance standards are listed on the manufacturer's current property sheet for I2428L. Flame retardant and anti-microbial additives are available depending upon volume, and H-O can arrange application-specific testing.

    How should I2428L be specified?

Specify grade (I2428L), thickness, dimensional tolerances, and finished format (roll, sheet or die-cut part), plus any adhesive, film or fabric lamination.
