HyPUR-cel® I2540L
HyPUR-cel® I2540L is a low-resiliency, energy-absorbing open cell polyurethane foam with a target density of 25 pcf (22–28 pcf tolerance) and a 25% Compression Deflection of 40 psi (30–50 psi tolerance) per ASTM D1056. The “L” designation identifies a formulation with 15% resilience per ASTM D2632 that dissipates impact and vibration energy with fast recovery and low hysteresis loss. The material operates across a service temperature range of -40°F to 250°F and combines 225 psi tensile strength, 125% elongation and 25 lb./in tear strength with an exceptionally low compression set of 0.5% per ASTM D1056 at 23°C. Properties are published by Rubberlite as provisional typical values.

HyPUR-cel® I2540L is a high-density low-resiliency “L” grade in the HyPUR-cel® I-series, pairing a 25 pcf target density with a 25% Compression Deflection of 40 psi. It offers the same firmness as I2040 at a higher density and, unlike a standard grade, absorbs rather than returns energy: resilience is 15% per ASTM D2632, giving fast recovery with low hysteresis loss for impact pads, high-load gasketing and vibration damping.
Compression set is exceptionally low at 0.5% at 23°C per ASTM D1056 and 1% at 70°C per ASTM D3574, and the foam retains the excellent high-temperature compression set, superb compression fatigue properties and dimensional stability of the series. Tensile strength of 225 psi, 125% elongation and 25 lb./in tear strength support demanding die-cutting and lamination, and the material accepts adhesives, fabrics, films and custom coatings.
Rubberlite publishes I2540L as provisional typical properties (issue date 9/16/24). No flammability rating or compliance standards are listed on the current sheet; contact H-O for the latest data or application-specific testing.
What differentiates I2540L from I2040 and I2560 within the HyPUR-cel® I-series?
I2540L matches the 40 psi Compression Deflection of I2040 but at 25 pcf rather than 20 pcf and as a low-resiliency energy-absorbing grade (15% resilience versus 26% for I2040). I2560 shares the 25 pcf density but is firmer at 60 psi with standard resilience.
What does the "L" in I2540L mean?
Per Rubberlite's naming convention, the first two digits are density (25 pcf) and the last two are 25% compression deflection (40 psi). The "L" identifies a low-resiliency, energy-absorbing product: I2540L has 15% resilience per ASTM D2632, so it dissipates impact and vibration energy with fast recovery and low hysteresis loss rather than rebounding like a standard I-series grade.
What is the service temperature range for I2540L?
I2540L is rated for continuous service from -40°F to 250°F as listed on the Rubberlite property sheet.
Is I2540L rated for flammability or other compliance standards?
No flammability rating or compliance standards are listed on the manufacturer's current property sheet for I2540L. Flame retardant and anti-microbial additives are available depending upon volume, and H-O can arrange application-specific testing.
How should I2540L be specified?
Specify grade (I2540L), thickness, dimensional tolerances, and finished format (roll, sheet or die-cut part), plus any adhesive, film or fabric lamination.
