HyPUR-cel® S1508
HyPUR-cel® S1508 is an open cell polyurethane foam with a typical density of 15 pcf (12–18 pcf tolerance) and a 25% Compression Deflection of 8 psi (5.5–10.5 psi tolerance) per ASTM D1056. The material operates across an extended service temperature range of -67°F to 250°F and exhibits very high elongation of 400% with strong tensile strength of 180 psi and 28 lb./in tear strength combined with low compression set. S1508 is thermoformable and suited for applications requiring a firmer, higher-density conformable foam with excellent stretch, structural integrity and dimensional stability across a wide temperature range.

HyPUR-cel® S1508 is a higher-density open cell polyurethane foam in the HyPUR-cel® S-series, positioned above S1203 and S1005. At 15 pcf with a 25% Compression Deflection of 8 psi, it delivers greater structural support than the softer S-series grades while retaining the thermoformability, very high stretch and extended low-temperature service capability that characterize the series.
The foam achieves 400% elongation per ASTM D3574, tensile strength of 180 psi and tear strength of 28 lb./in, providing strong fabrication performance alongside exceptional stretch for conformable fit over complex geometries. Compression set of 2% per ASTM D1056 confirms good shape retention after deflection, and resilience of 30% per ASTM D2632 gives a livelier response than the softer S grades. The thermoformable construction allows heat-shaping for contoured applications, and the material accepts laminations, fabrics, films and custom coatings.
What differentiates S1508 from S1005 and S1203 within the HyPUR-cel® S-series?
S1508 is denser and firmer at 15 pcf and 8 psi Compression Deflection than S1005 (10 pcf, 5 psi) and S1203 (12 pcf, 3 psi), and it carries the highest tensile strength (180 psi), tear strength (28 lb./in) and elongation (400%) of the three. It is specified when a conformable, thermoformable foam must also provide firm support.
Why is thermoformability important for S-series foam applications?
Thermoformability allows the foam to be heat-shaped into contoured or three-dimensional configurations without adhesive lamination or complex tooling. Combined with S1508's 400% elongation, this is particularly valuable in body-contact cushioning, padding and gasketing where the part must follow a curved surface.
What is the service temperature range for S1508?
S1508 is rated for continuous service from -67°F to 250°F as listed on the Rubberlite property sheet. The -67°F lower limit distinguishes the S-series from standard I-series grades and makes it suitable for cryogenic and low-temperature sealing.
Is S1508 rated for flammability or other compliance standards?
No flammability rating or compliance standards are listed on the manufacturer's current property sheet for S1508. Flame retardant and anti-microbial additives are available depending upon volume, and H-O can arrange application-specific testing.
How should S1508 be specified?
Specify grade (S1508), thickness, dimensional tolerances, and finished format (roll, sheet or die-cut part), plus any adhesive, film or fabric lamination.
