HyPUR-cel® S1630
HyPUR-cel® S1630 is an open cell polyurethane foam with a density range of 14–18 pcf and a 25% Compression Deflection range of 21–39 psi per ASTM D1056. The material operates across an extended service temperature range of -67°F to 250°F and delivers exceptional tensile strength of 325 psi with 290% elongation and low compression set. S1630 is thermoformable and flame lamination capable, making it well suited for high-strength laminated composite assemblies, structural cushioning, and demanding sealing applications requiring elevated load capacity and broad temperature performance.

HyPUR-cel® S1630 is the highest-density grade in the HyPUR-cel® S-series, combining a 14–18 pcf density range with the highest tensile strength (325 psi) and equal tear strength (40 lb./in) compared to S1420. Like S1420, it is both thermoformable and flame lamination capable, making it designed for demanding laminated composite assemblies and structural cushioning applications where the highest mechanical performance within the S-series is required alongside extended low-temperature capability.
At a Compression Deflection range of 21–39 psi, S1630 is significantly firmer than S1420 (11–29 psi), positioning it for applications requiring elevated load capacity. The foam delivers 290% elongation per ASTM D3574, enabling conformability over complex geometries despite its high density. Compression set of 6% max per ASTM D1056 supports shape retention in structural sealing and cushioning assemblies.
The extended service temperature range of -67°F to 250°F makes it suitable for cryogenic applications. The material accepts laminations, fabrics, films, and custom coatings.
What differentiates S1630 from S1420 within the HyPUR-cel® S-series?
S1630 is the higher-density, firmer grade at 14–18 pcf / 21–39 psi Compression Deflection, compared to S1420 at 12–16 pcf / 11–29 psi. Both grades are flame lamination capable and thermoformable with identical tear strength (40 lb./in), but S1630 delivers higher tensile strength (325 psi vs. 275 psi) and is specified when the greatest structural load capacity within the flame-lamination-capable S-series grades is required.
Why is flame lamination capability important for S1630 applications?
Flame lamination bonds fabric, film, or other substrates directly to the foam surface using a controlled flame process, eliminating the need for adhesive layers. This produces thinner, lighter composite assemblies with a permanent bond well suited for automotive interior trim, body-contact padding, and acoustic components where adhesive-based lamination is impractical or undesirable.
What is the service temperature range for S1630?
S1630 is rated for continuous service from -67°F to 250°F as listed on the TDS. The lower limit of -67°F makes it suitable for cryogenic and low-temperature environments.
Is S1630 suitable for regulated or compliance-rated environments?
No compliance standards are listed on the manufacturer's TDS for S1630. Suitability for regulated environments should be confirmed through independent testing.
How should S1630 be specified?
Specify grade (S1630), thickness, lamination requirements if applicable, dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
