Kapton® 200RS100 is a two-layer, all-polyimide resistive heating film with a precisely controlled surface resistivity of 100 ohms/sq (range 92–104 ohm/sq) on a black matte conductive side and a dielectric insulating layer on the shiny smooth opposite side, at 50 µm total thickness. Heating temperature is customizable based on electrode geometry and can be designed for continuous operation up to 200°C or short-term use up to 240°C. The film is durable from -270°C to 200°C, thermally stable to 325°C in oxygen-free environments, and continues to function even if punctured. Rated UL-94 V-0.

Kapton® 200RS100 is a resistive heating element in film form — a self-contained, all-polyimide construction in which one layer carries a precisely controlled electrical surface resistivity that generates heat when current is applied, while the other side provides the dielectric isolation of conventional Kapton® polyimide film.
Because surface resistivity (100 ohms/sq, range 92–104 ohm/sq) is stable to temperature and humidity variation, the heating performance of the film is consistent across varying environmental conditions. Output temperature is customizable by adjusting the distance between electrodes, allowing a single film to be configured for a wide range of heating temperatures up to the 200°C continuous rating.
Due to the low thermal mass of the thin all-polyimide construction, the film is a more energy-efficient heater than thicker or heavier heating system alternatives.
The film is opaque, thin (50 µm), and highly flexible, and can be cut into arbitrary configurations without loss of function — including after puncture, since the distributed resistive layer continues to conduct current around damaged areas. Surface resistivity change after 20-hour water bath immersion is +1.8 ohms/sq (hand-dried, four-point probe), indicating the controlled surface resistivity is minimally affected by moisture exposure.
MIT fold endurance exceeds 35,000 cycles MD and TD, initial tear strength exceeds 12 N MD and TD, and water uptake is 1.9% (immersion 24 hours).
Compliant with UL-94 V-0.
What differentiates Kapton® 200RS100 from standard Kapton® polyimide films?
Kapton® 200RS100 is an active heating element, not a passive insulator. Its conductive layer generates heat when voltage is applied across electrodes — standard Kapton® films are electrical insulators only. The resistive surface of 200RS100 is precisely controlled to 100 ohms/sq (range 92–104 ohm/sq) and is only slightly affected by temperature or humidity, enabling predictable and repeatable heating performance across varying conditions. No other standard Kapton® film grade provides this functionality.
Why does surface resistivity matter for resistive heating film selection?
Surface resistivity determines how much power is dissipated per unit area for a given applied voltage and electrode geometry, which directly controls the heating output. At 100 ohms/sq with minimal variation due to temperature or humidity (+1.8 ohms/sq change after 20-hour water bath), Kapton® 200RS100 delivers predictable, customizable heating performance. Tighter resistivity control means more consistent heat distribution across the element surface and more accurate temperature targeting through electrode placement.
What is the service temperature range for Kapton® 200RS100?
The film is durable from -270°C to 200°C, and is thermally durable to 325°C in oxygen-free environments. It is designed for continuous heating up to 200°C and short-term use up to 240°C.
Is Kapton® 200RS100 suitable for regulated environments?
Yes. Kapton® 200RS100 is rated UL-94 V-0. No additional compliance certifications are specified on the H-O Products TDS for this material.
How should Kapton® 200RS100 be specified?
Specify grade (Kapton® 200RS100), thickness (50 µm), target output temperature and electrode geometry (which together determine heating performance), compliance requirements (UL-94 V-0), dimensional tolerances, and finished format (slit roll, sheet, or die-cut heating element).
