Common industries: Rail, aerospace, automotive, marine, military, electronics, HVAC, lighting.

kSil™ KSV001 is the softest and lowest-density grade in the kSil™ V-0 series at 10.0 lbs/ft³, designed for applications requiring maximum compliance under minimal closure force combined with the most stringent international flame, smoke, and toxicity compliance. The smooth-skin closed-cell construction provides sealing capability to IP67.

Available in six thicknesses from 1/4″ to 1″, it is suited to seating and mattress materials, floor and cavity wall applications, and interior and exterior sealing in rail, aerospace, automotive, marine, military, electronics, HVAC, and lighting end uses.

    EN45545-2 classifications include R10, R21, R22, and R23 at HL3.

The material achieves a compression set of 1% at 22 hours, 212°F, 50% per ASTM D1056 — the lowest in the kSil™ series — and <1% at 158°F per BSENISO 1856. Thermal conductivity is 0.064 W/m·K per DIN EN993-15. Brittle point is -80°C (-112°F) per ASTM D746. Limiting oxygen index is 33.5% per ENO ISO 4589-2. Radiation resistance is >10⁵ Grays (10⁷ Rads) typical. The material is resistant to ozone, oxidation, UV, corona discharge, cosmic radiation, ionising radiation, and weather.

    Surface flammability (flame spread index Is) is 3 mm = 15 and 30 mm = 25 per ASTM E162. Smoke density (flaming mode Ds) at 1.5 min is 3 mm = 8, 30 mm = 11; at 4.0 min is 3 mm = 14, 30 mm = 30 per ASTM E662. Smoke density (non-flaming mode Ds) at 1.5 min is 3 mm = 5, 30 mm = 10; at 4.0 min is 3 mm = 13, 30 mm = 29 per ASTM E662. Toxic gas generation passes at 3 mm and 30 mm per Bombardier SMP 800-C. Average flame propagation is 1.6 inches per ASTM C1166.

    Toxicity (CIT nlp) at 600°C is 3 mm = 0.04 and 50 mm = 0.06 per NF X 70-100-1 & 2.

    Compliant with UL94 V0 (1.5 mm), EN45545-2 (HL3), NFPA 130, Bombardier SMP 800c, Airbus ABD0031, ASTM D1056 2D1, FMVSS 302, FAR 25 Appendix F Sec A 1 (i) & (ii), and CS 25 Appendix F Sec A 1 (i) & (ii).

What differentiates kSil™ KSV001 from other grades in the kSil™ V-0 series?

KSV001 is the softest and lowest-density grade in the kSil™ series at 10.0 lbs/ft³ and 2.8 psi compression stress at 25% strain — the least force required to compress of any grade in the series. It achieves the lowest compression set in the series at 1% at 22 hours, 212°F, 50% per ASTM D1056. It is the only grade in the kSil™ series carrying EN45545-2 classifications for R10 (floors and cavity wall) and R21 (seating and mattress materials) in addition to R22 and R23. Thickness starts at 1/4" and includes a 5/8" option not available in other grades.

Why is compression set critical for a super soft flame resistant silicone sponge?

Super soft grades operate under the lowest applied loads in the series and are the most susceptible to progressive permanent deformation over time. In sealing applications, a foam that takes a high compression set gradually loses contact force against the mating flange, opening gaps that compromise IP67 sealing performance and the material's function as a flame and smoke barrier. KSV001's compression set of 1% at 22 hours, 212°F, 50% — the lowest in the kSil™ series — confirms that the material maintains its geometry and contact force across its rated service conditions.

What is the service temperature range for kSil™ KSV001?

Low temperature resistance is -76°F, high temperature resistance is 446°F, and intermittent temperature resistance is 482°F, as listed on the TDS.

Is kSil™ KSV001 suitable for regulated aerospace, automotive, and rail environments?

    Yes. KSV001 passes UL94 V0 (1.5 mm), EN45545-2 (HL3), NFPA 130, FAR 25 Appendix F Sec A 1 (i) & (ii), CS 25 Appendix F Sec A 1 (i) & (ii), Bombardier SMP 800c, Airbus ABD0031, ASTM D1056 2D1, and FMVSS 302, as listed on the TDS.

How should kSil™ KSV001 be specified?

Specify grade (KSV001), thickness (from the six available gauges), color (Gray or Black), applicable compliance requirements, dimensional tolerances, and finished format (sheet, slit roll, or die-cut component).
