kSil™ KSV006 is the firmest and densest grade in the kSil™ V-0 closed-cell silicone sponge series at 37.5 lb/ft³ and 21.8 psi compression stress at 25% strain, with the highest tensile strength in the series at 120.4 psi and the highest thermal conductivity at 0.171 W/m·K. The smooth-skin construction provides sealing capability to IP67.
Available in seven thicknesses from 1/8″ to 1″, it is suited to environmental sealing, gasketing, and cushioning in rail, aerospace, automotive, marine, military, electronics, HVAC, and lighting applications where the highest closure force resistance in the kSil™ series is required.
EN45545-2 classifications cover R22 and R23 at HL3.
KSV006 is the only grade in the kSil™ series for which UL94 V0 is qualified at different minimum thicknesses by color — 3.0 mm for Gray and 1.5 mm for Black — a distinction unique to this TDS. Compression set is 2% at 22 hours, 212°F, 50% per ASTM D1056, and <1% at 158°F per BSENISO 1856. Limiting oxygen index is 42.8% per ENO ISO 4589-2. Radiation resistance is >10⁵ Grays (10⁷ Rads) typical. Thermal conductivity is 0.171 W/m·K per DIN EN993-15.
Brittle point is -80°C (-112°F) per ASTM D746. Smoke density (Ds MAX) at 25 kWm²: 2 mm = 12, 25 mm = 33 per EN ISO 5659-2. Toxicity (CIT nlp) at 600°C: 2 mm = 0.01, 25 mm = 0.04 per NF X 70-100-1 & 2. Average flame propagation is 0.9 inches per ASTM C1166 — the lowest in the kSil™ series. Surface flammability Is (flame spread index): 2 mm = 25, 30 mm = 15 per ASTM E162. Smoke density (flaming mode Ds) at 1.5 min: 3 mm = 7, 30 mm = 7; at 4.0 min: 3 mm = 16, 30 mm = 33 per ASTM E662.
Smoke density (non-flaming mode Ds) at 1.5 min: 3 mm = 2, 30 mm = 1; at 4.0 min: 3 mm = 13, 30 mm = 13 per ASTM E662. Toxic gas generation passes at 3 mm and 30 mm per Bombardier SMP 800-C. The material is resistant to ozone, oxidation, UV, corona discharge, cosmic radiation, ionising radiation, and weather.
Compliant with UL94 V0 (3.0 mm Gray / 1.5 mm Black), EN45545-2 (HL3), NFPA 130, Bombardier SMP 800c, Airbus ABD0031, ASTM D1056 2D1, FMVSS 302, FAR 25 Appendix F Sec A 1 (i) & (ii), and CS 25 Appendix F Sec A 1 (i) & (ii).
What differentiates kSil™ KSV006 from other grades in the kSil™ V-0 series?
KSV006 is the firmest and densest grade in the kSil™ series at 37.5 lb/ft³ and 21.8 psi compression stress at 25% strain — exceeding KSV005 (28.1 lb/ft³, 14.5 psi) and all softer grades. It achieves the highest tensile strength in the series at 120.4 psi and the highest thermal conductivity at 0.171 W/m·K. It is the only grade in the kSil™ series for which UL94 V0 is qualified at different minimum thicknesses by color — 3.0 mm for Gray and 1.5 mm for Black.
It also has the lowest average flame propagation in the series at 0.9 inches per ASTM C1166, and a compression set of 2% at 212°F — lower than KSV003, KSV004, and KSV005 (all 3%), matching KSV001 and KSV002.
Why is compression set critical for a firm flame resistant silicone sponge used in high-closure-force sealing?
Firm sponge grades are installed under the highest applied flange loads in the kSil™ series and must maintain their geometry and sealing contact force through sustained thermal and mechanical loading in demanding aerospace, rail, and automotive environments. A permanently set sponge loses the sealing force advantage of the firmer grade — reducing both IP67 integrity and the flame and smoke barrier performance required by EN45545-2, FAR 25, and the other regulatory standards this material carries.
KSV006's compression set of 2% at 22 hours, 212°F, 50% per ASTM D1056 — lower than the 3% of the medium and medium-firm grades — confirms reliable dimensional recovery under the highest service loads in the series.
What is the service temperature range for kSil™ KSV006?
Low temperature resistance is -76°F, high temperature resistance is 446°F, and intermittent temperature resistance is 482°F, as listed on the TDS.
Is kSil™ KSV006 suitable for regulated aerospace, automotive, and rail environments?
Yes. KSV006 passes EN45545-2 (HL3), NFPA 130, FAR 25 Appendix F Sec A 1 (i) & (ii), CS 25 Appendix F Sec A 1 (i) & (ii), Bombardier SMP 800c, Airbus ABD0031, ASTM D1056 2D1, and FMVSS 302. UL94 V0 is achieved at 3.0 mm minimum for Gray and 1.5 mm minimum for Black, as listed on the TDS.
How should kSil™ KSV006 be specified?
Specify grade (KSV006), thickness (from the seven available gauges), color (Gray or Black — noting UL94 V0 minimum thickness differs by color: 3.0 mm Gray / 1.5 mm Black), applicable compliance requirements, dimensional tolerances, and finished format (sheet, slit roll, or die-cut component).
