Nomex® Laminate Type NMN Aramid Paper / Polyester Film Triplex Laminate
Nomex® Laminate Type NMN is a triplex laminate constructed of calendered Nomex® paper bonded to polyester film with a proprietary high-temperature adhesive system, designed not to delaminate or blister at high temperatures. The polyester film core contributes high dielectric strength along with good initial tear strength and tensile properties, while the calendered Nomex® paper outer layers provide long-term thermal stability and improved propagation tear strength. Type NMN is recognized in UL insulation systems for both Class F and Class H motors and generators.

Common industries: motor and generator manufacturing, motor remanufacturing and repair.
Nomex® Laminate Type NMN is a triplex construction of calendered Nomex® paper bonded to polyester film with a proprietary high-temperature adhesive system, engineered specifically not to delaminate or blister at high temperatures — an advantage over single-ply Nomex® papers in demanding motor and generator applications.
The polyester film core contributes high dielectric strength as well as good initial tear strength and tensile properties, while the calendered Nomex® paper outer layers provide long-term thermal stability and improved propagation tear strength.
Type NMN is broadly used in the manufacture and remanufacture of motors and generators across many sizes and temperature classes, most notably for slot liners, wedges, and phase insulation in Class H motors and generators and in large and specialty Class F motors. This versatility allows motor manufacturers and repair facilities to standardize on a single insulation material across multiple motor classes. Type NMN has a shelf life in excess of one year when stored at or below room temperature.
Compliant with UL-recognized insulation systems for Class F and Class H motors and generators.
What differentiates Type NMN from single-ply Nomex® papers?
Type NMN is a triplex laminate combining calendered Nomex® paper outer layers with a polyester film core, engineered specifically not to delaminate or blister at high temperatures — a construction advantage that single-ply Nomex® papers do not offer.
Why does tensile strength matter for laminate selection?
Type NMN's polyester film core delivers tensile strengths up to 314 lb/in (MD, grade NMN 3-14-3), allowing the laminate to withstand the wrapping and forming stresses involved in fabricating motor and generator slot liners and phase insulation.
What is the temperature suitability of Type NMN?
Type NMN is engineered not to delaminate or blister at high temperatures and is recognized in UL insulation systems for both Class F and Class H motors and generators; shelf life exceeds one year when stored at or below room temperature.
Is Type NMN suitable for regulated motor and generator insulation systems?
Yes. Type NMN is included in UL-recognized insulation systems for Class F and Class H motors and generators.
How should Type NMN be specified?
Specify grade (e.g., NMN 3-5-3), thickness, compliance requirements, dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
