

Nomex® Type 414 High Density
Nomex® Type 414 is designed for applications requiring a strong, yet flexible and conformable sheet. It is electrically and thermally similar to Nomex® Type 410, but is calendered under different conditions to provide its unique properties, and is produced in five thicknesses from 0.09 mm to 0.38 mm (3.4 mil to 15 mil) with a density from 0.9 to 1.0. Type 414 was designed for use as slot insulation in hand-wound motors and for linear wrapping of wire.

Nomex® Type 414 is designed for applications requiring a strong yet flexible and conformable sheet. It is electrically and thermally similar to Nomex® Type 410, differing only in the calendering conditions used to produce it, and was designed for use as slot insulation in hand-wound motors and for linear wrapping of wire. It is also used in folded or punched parts and as sheet insulation in fluid-filled transformer applications, owing to its improved impregnability compared to Type 410.
Type 414 exhibits good fold endurance — at least double the values of Type 410 at the same thickness — and its dimensional and electrical properties change only modestly with humidity exposure: dielectric strength and tensile strength are retained at 96% relative humidity, and its Limiting Oxygen Index ranges between 27% and 32% at room temperature depending on thickness and density. Since Type 414 is identical in composition and similar in structure to Type 410, its flammability characteristics are also similar.
