NP322 MoS₂ Linen Phenolic Laminate Sheet is a specialty linen phenolic laminate incorporating molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) directly into the phenolic resin system to provide solid-film lubrication and reduced wear in non-conductive mechanical applications.

The MoS₂ additive delivers inherent lubricity without external lubricant application, making this material well suited for self-lubricating bearing surfaces, wear pads, bushings, and sliding components in electrical insulation service where oil or grease lubrication is not practical or acceptable.

The material provides the same lubricity as NP313 but offers better machining qualities, enabling tighter tolerances and better surface finish on precision-machined wear components.

Mechanical strength is similar to but slightly less than NP320, with a compressive strength of 39,000 psi — the highest flatwise compressive strength in the linen phenolic laminate line — and a tensile strength of 14,000 / 9,700 psi (LW/CW). The temperature index is 130°C electrical / 130°C mechanical — the highest in the canvas and linen phenolic laminate family. Flammability is rated HB per UL Bulletin 94. No NEMA grade is assigned to this material; NP322 carries no compliance specifications on the manufacturer’s TDS.

What differentiates NP322 MoS₂ Linen Phenolic Laminate Sheet from NP320 and NP313?

NP322 contains molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) in the phenolic resin system, providing solid-film lubrication and reduced wear that standard NP320 does not offer. Compared to NP313 (the other MoS₂ phenolic grade), NP322 offers better machining qualities while providing the same lubricity. Mechanical strength is similar to but slightly less than NP320 — the trade-off accepted in exchange for the lubrication performance the MoS₂ additive delivers. NP322 carries no NEMA grade designation and no compliance specifications per the manufacturer's TDS.

Why does solid-film lubrication from MoS₂ matter in non-conductive wear applications?

In applications where external lubricants (oils, greases) cannot be used — either because they are incompatible with adjacent materials, would contaminate a process, or are not practical to apply and maintain — a self-lubricating material is the only viable option for achieving low wear rates. MoS₂ in the resin system provides a low-friction surface at the contact interface, reducing wear and extending component service life without lubrication maintenance. The non-conductive nature of the phenolic substrate is preserved, making NP322 appropriate for bearing and wear applications within electrical insulation assemblies.

What is the temperature index for NP322 MoS₂ Linen Phenolic Laminate Sheet?

The temperature index is 130°C electrical / 130°C mechanical — the highest in the canvas and linen phenolic laminate family — as listed on the Technical Datasheet.

Does NP322 MoS₂ Linen Phenolic Laminate Sheet carry any NEMA or military compliance designations?

No. NP322 carries no NEMA grade designation and no compliance specifications are listed on the manufacturer's TDS. Applications requiring a NEMA-designated or military-spec phenolic laminate should specify NP310, NP342, NP320, or NP320E as appropriate.

How should NP322 MoS₂ Linen Phenolic Laminate Sheet be specified?

Specify grade (NP322 MoS₂ Linen Phenolic Laminate Sheet), thickness, dimensional tolerances, and finished format. Note that no NEMA grade or compliance specification applies to this material per the manufacturer's TDS.
