Common industries: Aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, defense, industrial ovens, HVAC.
PMD360 Polyimide Foam with Rubber Adhesive combines the PMD base polyimide foam with a rubber PSA (SLM360) on a 60# densified kraft backing, providing a single-sided adhesive configuration for bonding the foam to aircraft structures, duct surfaces, and equipment in aerospace applications.
The rubber PSA is designed for difficult bonding applications with excellent quick stick and shear properties for permanent bonding on foams, plastics, metals, and composite materials subjected to a broad range of temperatures. The rubber adhesive meets adhesive requirements of GM3622, Chrysler MS-CC211, and Delphi SD2-324 — automotive specifications that provide qualification benchmarks for adhesive performance, not foam performance.
The polyimide foam properties are identical to the PMD base grade: 0.44 lb/ft³ density, maximum continuous use temperature of 400°F, smoke developed index <5, NRC 0.75, outgassing TMI <1.0% and CVCM <0.1% per ASTM E595, thermal conductivity 0.32 btu/(h·ft²·°F), FAR 25.856 (a) pass, and the full aerospace specification suite (BMS 8-300, DMS 2330, BAMS 544-006, HS 14190, LAC 23-4831, ASTM C1482).
The rubber adhesive has a separate temperature range: maximum continuous use temperature of 180°F and minimum continuous use temperature of -10°F — constraints that apply to the adhesive layer, not the foam itself. No tensile strength, Mullen bursting strength, or FMVSS-302 data appear on this TDS; those properties are present only on the PMD360AF TDS.
Compliant with FAR 25.856 (a) (FAA Radiant Panel, Pass), ASTM C1482 (Yes), Boeing BMS 8-300 (Yes), Boeing (Douglas) DMS 2330 (Yes), Bombardier BAMS 544-006 (Yes), Hamilton Sundstrand HS 14190 (Yes), and Lockheed Martin LAC 23-4831 (Yes). Rubber adhesive meets GM3622, Chrysler MS-CC211, and Delphi SD2-324.
What differentiates PMD360 from the PMD base foam and the PMD360AF grade?
PMD360 adds a rubber PSA (SLM360) on a 60# densified kraft backing to the base PMD foam, enabling direct adhesive bonding during installation without separate adhesive application. PMD360AF adds both the rubber PSA and an aluminum foil facing — the aluminum foil adds FMVSS-302, FMVSS-302 pass, tensile strength (20 lb/in), Mullen bursting strength (40 psi minimum), and additional cold weather flexibility data not listed on the PMD360 TDS. PMD360 does not carry those properties. All three grades share the same polyimide foam core specifications.
Why is peel adhesion important for a rubber PSA polyimide foam used in aerospace insulation bonding?
In aircraft insulation installation, the PSA must bond reliably to the substrate in a single step during aircraft assembly or MRO. Peel adhesion of 96 oz/inch per PSTC-101 confirms that the SLM360 rubber adhesive provides adequate holding power for permanent bonding to the range of aerospace substrates (foams, plastics, metals, composites) described in the product features. Insufficient peel adhesion in an aircraft insulation blanket can lead to delamination or separation under the vibration, thermal cycling, and pressure differentials of flight service.
What are the temperature limits for PMD360?
The polyimide foam maximum continuous use temperature is 400°F. The rubber adhesive has a separate temperature range: maximum continuous use temperature of 180°F and minimum continuous use temperature of -10°F, as listed on the TDS.
Is PMD360 suitable for regulated aerospace environments?
Yes. PMD360 passes FAR 25.856 (a) and meets Boeing BMS 8-300, Boeing (Douglas) DMS 2330, Bombardier BAMS 544-006, Hamilton Sundstrand HS 14190, Lockheed Martin LAC 23-4831, and ASTM C1482, as listed on the TDS. The rubber adhesive meets GM3622, Chrysler MS-CC211, and Delphi SD2-324.
How should PMD360 be specified?
Specify grade (PMD360), thickness (1/2"), color (Light Yellow), adhesive type (Rubber SLM360, single sided, 60# densified kraft backing), applicable compliance requirements (FAR 25.856(a), Boeing BMS 8-300, Boeing Douglas DMS 2330, Bombardier BAMS 544-006, Hamilton Sundstrand HS 14190, Lockheed Martin LAC 23-4831, ASTM C1482), dimensional tolerances, and finished format (sheet or die-cut component). Note the separate adhesive temperature limits (-10°F to 180°F) when evaluating for application temperature exposure.
