Common industries: automotive, electronics, industrial manufacturing.

PORON® 4701-60 is the highest-firmness grade in the PORON® 4701 unsupported cellular polyurethane foam series. It is designed for demanding sealing and gasketing applications where high compressive loads are expected and where the foam must maintain its sealing force without permanent deformation. Three density grades provide compression force deflection values spanning 231 to 783 kPa (34 to 114 psi) at 25% deflection, allowing designers to select the appropriate resistance level for their load requirements.

The unsupported construction provides maximum flexibility for die-cutting and converting into finished gasket and seal geometries. Compression set performance at 70°C (158°F) is 7.9% or less, depending on density grade, indicating good long-term sealing retention under thermal load. Dielectric strength ranges from 2.2 to 2.5 kV/mm across the three density grades. The material passes fogging per ISO 6452 / DIN 75201 for the 240 and 320 kg/m³ grades, and embrittlement does not occur above -40°C (-40°F).

    Compliant with UL 94 HBF (File E20305), FMVSS 302 (ISO 3795 / DIN 75200), and UL Gasketing & Sealing JMST2 (File MH15464).

What differentiates PORON® 4701-60 from other grades in the PORON® 4701 series?

PORON® 4701-60 provides the highest compression force deflection in the PORON® 4701 series — up to 783 kPa (114 psi) at 25% deflection for the 400 kg/m³ grade — making it the appropriate choice when design loads exceed what softer 4701 grades can accommodate while maintaining an effective seal.

Why is compression set critical for a foam sealing material?

Compression set measures how much a foam permanently deforms after being held under load at elevated temperature. PORON® 4701-60 has a maximum compression set of 7.9% (240 kg/m³ grade) down to 4.7% (400 kg/m³ grade) at 70°C (158°F), meaning the material retains most of its original thickness and continues to exert sealing force over the life of the assembly.

What is the service temperature range for PORON® 4701-60?

The recommended constant use temperature is 90°C (194°F) maximum, with intermittent use rated to 121°C (250°F) per UL 157. Embrittlement temperature is -40°C (-40°F) per ISO 974 (E).

Is PORON® 4701-60 suitable for automotive flame-rated environments?

Yes. PORON® 4701-60 is compliant with FMVSS 302 (ISO 3795 / DIN 75200) for the 240 and 320 kg/m³ density grades at minimum thicknesses of 3.18 mm (0.125 in) and 1.57 mm (0.062 in) respectively. It also carries UL 94 HBF compliance (File E20305) and UL Gasketing & Sealing approval under JMST2 (File MH15464).

How should PORON® 4701-60 be specified?

Specify grade (PORON® 4701-60), density (240, 320, or 400 kg/m³), thickness, compliance requirements, dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
