Common industries: electronics, automotive, HVAC, industrial manufacturing, outdoor equipment.

PORON® AquaPro® 4701-41 is a soft, enhanced-sealability polyurethane foam designed for demanding environmental sealing applications including electronic enclosure gasketing, outdoor and weatherproof equipment seals, and automotive interior and exterior sealing.

    Three density grades — 240 (15), 320 (20), and 480 (30) kg/m³ (lb/ft³) — provide compression force deflection ranges from 41 to 317 kPa (6 to 46 psi) at 25% deflection, with typical values of 69 (9.3), 103 (15), and 193 (28) kPa (psi) respectively. Tensile strength minimums range from 276 kPa (40 psi) at the 240 kg/m³ grade to 827 kPa (120 psi) at the 480 kg/m³ grade, with Shore O hardness values of 18, 24, and 55.

    Hydrolysis / autoclave compression set maximum is 5% after 5 hrs @ 121°C (250°F).

    Electrical properties are consistent across all three density grades: dielectric strength 1969 kV/m (50 volts/mil), volume resistivity 1 × 10¹² ohm-cm, surface resistivity 2 × 10¹², and dielectric constant (K’) 1.71 at 22°C / 50% RH. Cold flexibility passes at -40°C (-40°F) per MIL-P-12420D 1991. Dimensional stability is ± 2% maximum after 22 hrs @ 80°C in a forced-air oven. Fogging passes SAE J-1756 (3 hrs @ 100°C).

Outgassing TML ranges from 0.84 to 1.0% across the three density grades. Mildew / bacteria resistance is Good per ASTM G21 and staining is absent per ASTM D925. The material passes skin contact irritation per Primary Skin Irritation Test (FHSA) / ASTM D925.

Compliant with UL 94HBF (File E20305) for the 240 kg/m³ grade at ≥ 4.8 mm (0.188 in), and UL JMST2 Gasketing & Sealing (UL50 & UL508, File MH15464). FMVSS 302 and CSA Comp HBF (File 188149) testing is listed as not available at this time on the TDS.

What differentiates PORON® AquaPro® 4701-41 from standard PORON® sealing foams?

PORON® AquaPro® 4701-41 is specifically engineered for enhanced sealability, offering a wide compression force deflection range — 41 to 317 kPa (6 to 46 psi) across three density grades — combined with UL JMST2 Gasketing & Sealing listing (File MH15464), low outgassing (TML ≤ 1.0%), fogging compliance per SAE J-1756, and skin contact irritation pass, making it suited for demanding environmental sealing applications that require multiple compliance validations.

Why is compression set critical for an environmental sealing foam?

Compression set determines whether the foam permanently deforms under the compressive load of an enclosure closure, losing its ability to maintain an effective environmental seal over time. PORON® AquaPro® 4701-41 achieves a maximum of 5% at 23°C (73°F) and 10% at 70°C (158°F) — both after 24-hour recovery — as well as 5% maximum after autoclave exposure at 121°C (250°F), ensuring long-term sealing performance across the service life of the assembly.

What is the service temperature range for PORON® AquaPro® 4701-41?

Recommended constant use temperature is 90°C (194°F) maximum per SAE J-2236, with intermittent use to 121°C (250°F). Cold flexibility passes at -40°C (-40°F) per MIL-P-12420D 1991. Embrittlement temperature data is listed as not available on the TDS.

    Is PORON® AquaPro® 4701-41 suitable for flame-rated enclosure environments?

Yes, with grade-specific limitations. UL 94HBF compliance (File E20305) applies to the 240 kg/m³ grade only at ≥ 4.8 mm (0.188 in). FMVSS 302 and CSA Comp HBF testing is listed as not available at this time on the TDS. UL JMST2 Gasketing & Sealing (UL50 & UL508, File MH15464) applies to all grades.

    How should PORON® AquaPro® 4701-41 be specified?

Specify grade (PORON® AquaPro® 4701-41), density (240, 320, or 480 kg/m³), thickness, compliance requirements, dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
