PORON EVExtend® 4701-43 is a microcellular polyurethane foam engineered for demanding sealing, cushioning, and energy-management applications, including EV battery pack sealing and long-term compression-loaded seals.
Available in three density grades — 4701-43-07 (112 kg/m³), 4701-43-10 (160 kg/m³), and 4701-43-12 (192 kg/m³) — the 43 Series is characterized by consistent compression force deflection across the full deflection range, with typical CFD values documented from 10% through 80% deflection on the TDS. All grades are supplied with PET support film; the 4701-43-10 and -12 grades are also available with Release PET.
Maximum compression set of 5% at both 23°C (73°F) and 70°C (158°F) supports long-term sealing performance under sustained compressive load. Tear strength minimum is 1.23 kN/m (7 pli). Thermal conductivity ranges from 0.044 W/M-°C (4701-43-07) to 0.052 W/M-°C (0.36 BTU-in./hr/ft²-°F) for the 4701-43-12 grade. Dielectric strength is 128 volts/mil for the 4701-43-07 grade and 56 volts/mil for the -10 and -12 grades.
UL 94 HBF compliance (File E20305) applies to the 4701-43-10 and -12 grades at a minimum thickness of 1.0 mm (0.039 in); the 4701-43-07 grade has no flammability listing on the TDS. Outgassing TML is 0.72%, 0.73%, and 0.66% for the -07, -10, and -12 grades respectively.
Compliant with UL 94 HBF (File E20305) for the 4701-43-10 and 4701-43-12 grades at ≥ 1.0 mm (0.039 in) PET support type only.
What differentiates PORON EVExtend® 4701-43 from other PORON® foam grades?
PORON EVExtend® 4701-43 is engineered specifically for demanding energy-management and long-term compression-loaded sealing applications, including EV battery packs. Its defining characteristic is consistent compression force deflection across the full deflection range — with typical values documented from 10% through 80% deflection — combined with a 5% maximum compression set at both 23°C and 70°C, supporting reliable long-term sealing performance.
Why is compression set critical for this material?
In long-term compression-loaded seals — such as those used in EV battery packs — the foam must maintain sealing force over the service life of the assembly without permanently deforming. PORON EVExtend® 4701-43 limits compression set to 5% maximum at both 23°C (73°F) and 70°C (158°F), ensuring the material continues to exert contact pressure after prolonged loading at elevated temperatures.
What is the service temperature range for PORON EVExtend® 4701-43?
Recommended constant use temperature is 90°C (194°F) maximum per SAE J-2236, with intermittent use to 121°C (250°F). Embrittlement temperature is -20°C per ASTM D746-98.
Is PORON EVExtend® 4701-43 suitable for flame-rated environments?
UL 94 HBF compliance (File E20305) applies to the 4701-43-10 and 4701-43-12 grades only, at a minimum thickness of 1.0 mm (0.039 in) and only with the PET support type. No flammability rating is listed on the TDS for the 4701-43-07 grade.
How should PORON EVExtend® 4701-43 be specified?
Specify grade (PORON EVExtend® 4701-43), density sub-grade (-07, -10, or -12), support type (PET or Release PET where applicable), thickness, compliance requirements, dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
