Pyrogel XTF

Pyrogel XTF is a hydrophobic, breathable aerogel blanket insulation rated for continuous use from ambient to 650°C (1200°F), combining passive fire protection with thermal insulation in a thin, lightweight format. It delivers hydrocarbon pool-fire protection for up to 3 hours and jet fire protection for up to 2 hours, and can be used to meet API 521 requirements for the sizing of pressure relief systems. The material resists liquid water and the damaging effects of corrosion under insulation/fireproofing (CUI/CUF), and installs in all weather conditions with no cure or drying time required.

Pyrogel XTF is a hydrophobic, breathable aerogel blanket insulation built by integrating aerogel — a lightweight solid with the lowest thermal conductivity of any solid material — into a fiber-batting to create a flexible, resilient, and durable blanket. It incorporates the insulative qualities of Pyrogel XTE while adding passive fire protection, and is engineered to reduce total installed cost versus traditional passive fire protection systems by requiring no cure or drying time and by covering more asset area per man hour, particularly on large-bore piping, vessels, and skirts.

The blanket is rated for continuous use from ambient to 650°C (1200°F), delivers ≥ 3 psi (20.7 kPa) compressive resistance at 10% deformation, and remains flexible for application onto complex geometries. It is hydrophobic and breathable, keeping underlying assets drier for longer and providing corrosion defense against CUI/CUF, while passing fungal resistance, water absorption by immersion, and corrosiveness-to-steel testing. Pyrogel XTF can be clean-cut with conventional tools (scissors, tin snips, razor knives) and is designed for use with a properly installed jacketing system.

Compliant with ASTM E84, ASTM C411, ASTM C795, ASTM C1338, ASTM C1617, and ASTM C1763.

What differentiates Pyrogel XTF from traditional passive fire protection materials?

Pyrogel XTF combines the class-leading thermal performance of Pyrogel XTE with passive fire protection in a single, thin, lightweight blanket. Unlike traditional passive fire protection systems, it requires no curing or drying time, can be installed in all weather conditions, and can be easily removed and reused after inspection — while still delivering up to 3 hours of hydrocarbon pool-fire protection and up to 2 hours of jet fire protection.

Why does thermal conductivity matter in material selection for Pyrogel XTF?

As a combined insulation and fire-protection material, Pyrogel XTF's thermal conductivity — ranging from 0.14 BTU-in/hr-ft²-°F (20 mW/m-K) at 0°C to 0.62 BTU-in/hr-ft²-°F (89 mW/m-K) at 600°C — determines how effectively it limits heat transfer across the full range of its rated service temperature, directly affecting insulation thickness requirements and asset protection in high-temperature process environments.

What is the service temperature range for Pyrogel XTF?

Pyrogel XTF is rated for continuous use from ambient temperature to 650°C (1200°F), per its Estimation of Maximum Use Temperature rating (ASTM C447).

Is Pyrogel XTF suitable for flame-rated and passive fire protection environments?

Yes. Pyrogel XTF is tested to ASTM E84 (Flame Spread Index ≤ 5, Smoke Developed Index ≤ 10) and delivers up to 180 minutes of protection under UL-1709 Rapid Rise Fire Test, up to 120 minutes under ISO-22899 Jet Fire Protection, and up to 60 minutes under ISO-20088-3 Cold Splash testing.

How should Pyrogel XTF be specified?

Specify grade (Pyrogel XTF), thickness, roll width, compliance requirements, dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
