R1776 Permanent / Removable Differential Double Coated Polyester (PET) Film Tape

R1776 is a differential double coated polyester (PET) film tape with a permanent rubber pressure sensitive adhesive on the exposed side and a removable acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive on the liner side, at a total thickness of 4 mils (0.102 mm). The exposed side delivers aggressive permanent adhesion of 120 oz/in to foams, metals, plastics, and low surface energy materials across a service range of -20°F to 160°F (-29°C to 71°C). The liner side acrylic adhesive allows repositionability and clean, residue-free removal, supplied on a 76# moisture stable polycoated kraft liner.

Common industries: industrial fabrication, foam and gasket converting, general assembly and mounting.

R1776 is a differential double coated tape built on a polyester (PET) film carrier, engineered for applications where the two bonding faces must perform differently. The exposed side carries a strong permanent rubber pressure sensitive adhesive that bonds aggressively to foams, metals, plastics, and low surface energy substrates, while the liner side carries a removable acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive that permits repositioning during assembly and removes cleanly without residue.

The PET film carrier provides good conformability and dimensional stability, and the tape is supplied on a 76# moisture stable polycoated kraft liner that lays flat for reliable processing and converting. Peel performance is sharply differentiated between faces — 120 oz/in on the exposed side versus 22 oz/in on the liner side — while both faces hold greater than 168 hours of shear at 2.2 psi. The tape is rated for service from -20°F to 160°F (-29°C to 71°C). No compliance standards are specified on the manufacturer’s TDS for this material.

What differentiates R1776 from standard double coated tapes?

R1776 uses a differential construction rather than matched adhesives on both faces. The exposed side carries a permanent rubber PSA rated at 120 oz/in peel that bonds aggressively to foams, metals, plastics, and low surface energy materials, while the liner side carries a removable acrylic PSA at 22 oz/in that allows repositioning and clean, residue-free removal — making it suited to assemblies where one bond must be permanent and the other serviceable.

Why is peel adhesion important for this application?

Peel adhesion defines how each face of the tape performs in service. The 120 oz/in exposed side ensures the permanent bond withstands aggressive service demands, including on low surface energy substrates, while the intentionally lower 22 oz/in liner side allows the removable face to release cleanly without damaging the substrate or leaving residue. The differential between the two values is what enables the permanent/removable function.

What is the service temperature range for R1776?

R1776 is rated for a minimum service temperature of -20°F (-29°C) and a maximum service temperature of 160°F (71°C).

Is R1776 suitable for regulated environments?

No compliance standards are specified on the manufacturer's TDS for this material. Applications requiring specific regulatory or flame-rating certifications should be reviewed with H-O Products prior to specification.

    How should R1776 be specified?

Specify grade (R1776), thickness, adhesive orientation (which face requires the permanent rubber adhesive versus the removable acrylic adhesive), liner requirements, dimensional tolerances, and finished format.
